I would disagree and say no diapers. Some parents have a preference for one kind of diaper over another plus you can never tell whats the best size to get since some babies speed through certain sizes. I would get a gift card. You can never go wrong with that.

when my friend had her 2nd baby I got her a big box of pampers for newborns that also came with wipes. I remember her liking this brand for the first kid so i figured it would be useful and the baby would need them. I also got a box of onsies.

I agree with the no diapers, unless you know specifically what kind they want.  I know of a few couples that did cloth diapering, and they ended up with a lot of disposable ones that they had to return after their showers.  And agreeing with

@bells: you don’t know what brand or size they need.  Do they have a registry?

They are great because you can put frozen fruits/veggies in them and not worry about the baby choking on pieces that break off, they are a little bit of a pain to clean, but they definitely get colder than the refrigerate only teething rings.  My nieces and nephew found a lot of relief with them… I have given 3 sets out to new parents recently and everyone seems to really like them.

I’d stick to the registry, no matter what the ratings are, because those are things that she needs. And most likely, she’ll end up buying a lot of what she doesn’t get.

One thing that I like to do is put together a little emergency kit for mama and baby: diaper cream, alcohol swabs, generic baby tylenol, saline spray, thermometer, nipple cream, breast pads, etc. Those aren’t glamorous to give, but those are things that she will use and need.

i bought cute baby things for the shower (swaddle blanket and a lion that makes soothing sleep noises), but now that baby is due next week i got her the BEST gift! she’s been saying for months she can’t wait to share a bottle of wine. well, i found these:

so her “push” present from me will be a bottle of wine and these 🙂
