One of my best girls just found out she’s pregnant. She’s only about 6-7 weeks along. This was a bit of a surprise baby, but they are gettig really excited. We live far apart, so I’d like to send her a little box of “Yay, you’re having a baby!” items. Also, I’m on a fairly limited budget, so it can’t coat hundreds of dollars, unless I unexpectedly hit the lottery. I’d like to keep it under $75 total.
What would you have liked to receive from a friend when you were early in your pregnancy? I’d like to be able to send several small things, sort of a pregnancy survival kit type thing.

A gift certificate for a massage or something pampering? Ummm I am trying to think of what would be awesome right now…

Pregnancy books- The Girlfriend’s Guide to Pregnancy was one of the first ones I bought and I really liked it. Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy is not super informational, but it’s really funny and silly.
Palmer’s Stretch Mark Cream or BioOil
Baby name book
Bath salts and/or bubble bath. Nothing is better that a nice long soak when you’re bloated and uncomfortable
Kleenex for when she starts crying at commercials on TV
Giftcard for a pedicure/foot massage
A pregnancy journal
A Tide-to-go pen because your belly becomes a magnet for food
Nice strong hair ties so she can make her pre-pregnancy jeans last a little longer (I was probably 8 weeks when I started having to do this)
Giant chocolate bar

I second (third) the spa gift idea. Many spas offer prenatal massage. I also loved my body pillow while pregnant…it gets so hard to sleep! A pregnancy journal would also be nice, they have a lot of cute fill-on-the-blank type ones.

If you’d like to put together a little box that isn’t too expensive, you could include: preggie pops (you can find them online or at the mall at maternity stores), some nice lotion, a bella band and a book. To me, those are all things that I bought pretty early on, and it would be fun to get in a package. Plus, you can’t have too many of those things– she’ll use the preggie pops if she’s nauseous, an extra bella band is always nice and she will go through the lotion, for sure!
What a sweet friend you are!

@smores: I just found out my closest friend in the world is 6 weeks pregnant also! I sent her a carepackage with the following: baby bath set (like johnson shampoo, wash, etc), a package of cute wash clothes, cocoa butter, a little book to read to the baby, a little newborn stuffed animal type toy, and a bag of candy for her to enjoy now.
ANything that let’s your friend know that you are happy for her and thinking of her. I tried to do it based on what I would like to get.

I got this for my friend who just found out she’s pregnant – you write one line a day in it for five years. I think it’d be an awesome way to document all the little things you end up forgetting.
I also got her this – I thought it was great because it has spaces for weekly pictures, asks you questions (like when did you first wear maternity clothes, what are you craving, etc.)

I would have loved all the ideas the ladies mentioned above! I think a pregnancy book, I like “Your pregnancy week by week”, a pregnancy journal, a belly band are all things I would have loved loved loved!

Everybody is going to be giving her super cute things. What about some fun/funny things? I plan on getting Mr. Hedgie a couple of these to announce to him.
These are super cute and kinda funny and will certainly help pass the time until the baby is born and even be somewhat helpful!

Oooh 🙂 I love this idea!
My lifesaver during my first trimester was Earth Mama Angel Baby Morning Wellness Tea.
You could get her the “sampler” that has morning wellness, peaceful mama, heartburn and third trimester tea as well.
I also love their stretch oil, smells so good.
healthy protein bars
The Pregnancy Book by Dr. Sears
a copco water cup – it has helped me drink a lot more water than I used to!!
I also love the spa gift card idea, even $25 would be awesome.

I know I say this all the time, but I LOVE the book “Pregnancy Day by Day.” It has one page per day of your pregancy as well as a few more in-depth pages regarding different issues. It has a photo (ultrasound) of the baby on each page and tells you what’s going on with development. It also has tips for dads, for folks with multiples, advice from doctors and other moms. And at the end of each week of the first trimester there is a lifesize drawing of the baby. LOVE. It’s the only book so far that I’m re-reading the second time around. One page is easy enough to read right before bed, it keeps Hubby involved, and I think he’s actually enjoying it more this 2nd time around, too.
