I hope I can get some advice an inspiration from y’all. Fiance and I are not religious, though we were both raised Christian. My family is very relaxed about everything, but FI’s family and relatives are very devout. So we’re wondering what we should include in our ceremony. We would like for it to stay traditional and wouldn’t mind some religious elements, but we don’t want to portray ourselves as something we’re not.
Religiously speaking, there could be sermons, bible readings, prayers… and less religious suggestions I’ve come across include poetry readings, songs, favorite children’s books, and speeches. How do you fill 15-30 minutes? Processional and recessional might take about 5 minutes each (generously calculated), exchange of vows another 5… but apart from that?
I’m really stuck on what to include and how to structure the ceremony. How have you planned your (maybe not very religious) ceremony?
