I’m another southern Maine bride, and have just started to think about Out of Town bags…so its incomplete, but here are my ideas so far:

Poland Spring water

“lobster on the rocks” candy – from Haven’s Chocolates (Havens has tons of great lobster shaped chocolates and “Maine themed” chocolates and candies.)

lobster shaped lollipop

Maine balsam fir “pillow”

some kitchy moose item(s)

maps of Portland and Freeport

set of beach themed cards (my mom’s an artist with a line of greetng cards, I will include hers in my Out of Town bags, but any beach theme would work)

My first two thoughts were a lobster and a Stephan King novel, but you should go with some blueberries! Or something blueberry flavored! Or if you want to do a New England theme, you could do something with cranberries.

Are All dressed chips a Maine-thing? One of my friends is from Portland and everytime he goes up there, he comes back with those chips.

Hope that helps!

This is what we plan on putting in ours (some items are Maine-themed, some aren’t)

(1) Poland springs water

(2) Chocolate-covered blueberries (I’ll probably buy them at Trader Joes and then repackage them into smaller bags)

(3) Chex mix (FI loves it!)

(4) Fresh-baked cookies (FI claims he will bake and package these, but we’ll see if that actually happens)

(5) Individually packaged bug spray wipes  (Lots of mosquitoes in Bar Harbor in the summer)

(6) Local tourist info (I’m just going to grab the free brochures and then throw them in the Out of Town bags)

Btw, the actual bags are L.L. Bean style tote bags.  The actual L.L. Bean bags are WAAAAAYY too expensive, but we found some similar looking ones for uner $2 a piece.
