I used both silver and gold gel pens to write on bronze stardream, and after I let them dry, it worked fine.

I had the best luck with Sharpies and I found that printing in a laser printer worked better than ink jet.  I could not get my gel pens to dry.

The lady at my local paper/scrapbooking company (think PaperSource type) told me to use pens that say "pigment ink". I got a Zig’s archival quality pen, and at least on coverweight Stardream (my test paper) it dries very fast, and didn’t smudge when I sprayed the paper with water and rubbed. It MAY be different on text weight, but hopefully not. I have Stardream Gold, and black showed up pretty well.
