I’ve been invited to an Indian wedding in the summer, and not being Indian myself, I’m not too familiar with the customs/clothing. Are there certain colors that I should avoid wearing (bad luck?), and is there a certain level of formality that I should strive for (summer dress vs. evening/prom style gown)?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi meowmeow, I think you should avoid white and black and red is usually worn by the bride so perhaps you could avoid that too. Also Indian weddings are usually quite formal as many people there are likely to be wearing saris so I suggest something formal, definitely not a sun-dress.
hope this helps!

I agree with Pinky. If it’s a Hindu wedding, the bride will normally wear a red sari, so its a good idea to avoid wearing red.

I just attended an Indian wedding last week and I’m not South Asian. I was told not to wear black, so I didn’t. I wore a nice formal dress to the wedding. I wish I would have brought two outfits though! The South Asian guests all changed between wedding and reception and the outfits were amazing! From my experience, the brighter the better! 🙂

Bright colors, blues, greens, orange…no red, white, black…satin dress or tafeta would be great.

I would say stay formal, fancy, wear some big shiney earrings and dress to impress! Stay away from Black, White and probably red!
Have fun and make sure you dance the night away!!!
