I wore a strapless bra (convertable so I could wear the straps at lunch) a full pair of white panties (I almost exclusively wear thongs). I don’t think you need shoes, though you might want to know what type you plan to wear so that the consultant knows what length you should wear (i.e. if you are short and plan to wear flats or tall and plan to wear heels). Other than that I think you should be good!

When I went I wore a strapless bra and I brougt shoes just because I am short and knew the dresses would be ridiculously long on me. Wear comfy clothes if you are going to more than one store. I had changing in and out of street clothes when trying them on!

I took my strapless bra with me, although if you’re not easily grossed out and a fairly standard size, most places will have bras for you to try on with the dress (they sell them, so they’re trying to up the sale. Don’t buy one at a bridal shop, though- they’re almost always cheaper online or in a department store).

A full coverage pair of panties in a light color.  You’ll probably put crinolines under most of the dresses, so they don’t really need to be white or nude, but definitely boy shorts or full bikinis are your friends.

And I took high high shoes cause I’m short. It did help to not be clomping around in bridal store shoes that were too big (although I’m a size 5- if you have normal sized feet you might be ok).

Wear outer clothes that are easy to take off and put on if you’re going to more than one shop. I went on a warm day in October and wore a maxi dress and a sweater, and it worked out great.

Wear your hair down but take a hair tie.  You’re going to want to see your hair both ways and probably put it up to try on veils.

No clunky jewelry or anything that would have to be removed and left in a dressing room or be distracting.

I didn’t bring or a corset or special bra, because the store had generic ones you could wear with your dress and I didn’t want to spend the money on one without knowing what type of dress I would end up buying.

I did bring spanx with me, though. Didn’t wear them.

..and please don’t wear makeup!!

I bought a sample dress and it has someone’s gross red lipstick smeared on the inside of the corset.  Sample dresses really do get sold…please spare some other bride your makeup and just. don’t. wear. it.

I would wear makeup the way you plan to wear it on your wedding day. Lots of girls have dress regret because their face in pics doesn’t look like it will on the wedding day. So if you’re planning on lots of makeup, don’t go natural that day. Or if you don’t wear much ever,  then don’t bother. You don’t need to have your wedding look all figured out, I just think its helpful to have it on for pictures. (but like schneile said don’t get it on the sample) Ask salons if they will let you take pictures before you make the appointment if you can. A place where you can take pics is going to be way more useful to you because you can look at them after going to several shops or in a couple months when you can’t remember what your dress looks like. Also bring a camera lol.

I wore a strapless bra, just so in pics they are not in the way. I didn’t wear spanx because I wanna see how the dress looks on me naturally before alternations. That’s just me. The serious stuff really happens after you pic your dress out like the shoes, your hair etc.

I wore a flesh colored strapless bra and hipster undies with a cotton dress that was easy to pull on and off between shops.  I didn’t bring shoes, but think it’s a good idea to bring a pair with a heel height similar to what you plan on wearing at your wedding.

I wouldn’t go out and buy any special undergarments (spanx, corset, whatever) until you choose a dress and know what works with it.

ETA: bring lots of water.  I got so hot and thirsty changing in and out of the heavy dresses.

@sarahcool:  OMG YES!!! pit stick is super important.

Dont wear a thong, the one salon I went to wouldnt let girls try on dresses with out “full covering” underwear. I wore boy shorts that didnt show a panty line. I brought my strapless bra just incase, and it was a big help. Dont where perfume or lotion and wear make-up just dont cake it on! Alot of sample dresses I tried on were covered in foundation on the inside…kinda gross. Also a hair tie or clip is handy. And a just wore sweats and a sweater, clothes that were easy to get in and out off.
