I’m going to a friend’s wedding in two weeks, and have absolutely no idea what to wear. It’s in the middle of winter, in a paddock (both ceremony and reception) and is bound to be absolutely freezing. It’s a smart-casual wedding. I was going to go with a white 3/4 sleeve shirt with a dark blue and white polka dot skirt that I’m making, or a black 3/4 sleeve shirt with a light blue patterned skirt. What would be better, in your opinion? I’m so lost!
Thanks so much, lovely people!

@tashpavez: Don’t suppose you have photos of these two possibilities? I’m having a little trouble picturing it in my head.

@pengoala: Sadly I don’t – I have both the shirts with me at the moment, but one skirt is in the process of being made, and the other one is at my place interstate (currently on holidays). I’ll try and play on Polyvore or something to get a similar pic, though.

http://www.polyvore.com/wedding1/set?id=85186489 <— the black shirt with blue skirt. The skirt that I have is that colour, but has black and white patterns over it. I found a scrap of the fabric, so here it is:
Hope that helps! Thanks again 🙂

Around here you shouldn’t wear white to a wedding.

I like the white top with the polka dot skirt, and I really like the red accessories! Honestly, it’s a shirt for crying out loud, I wouldn’t bat an eye if I saw someone wearing that to a wedding.

Middle of Winter in June, and “absolutely freezing” is relative…
(Middle of Winter in Canada and absolutely freezing would be -10 to -40 C)
It is pretty clear to me you are posting from somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, so maybe to put your post in perspective you could share with us what the actual average temps will be for the location / time of year
Then it’ll be easier to make appropriate wardrobe suggestions.

Ooh, I love the polka-dotted outfit, so cute!

Yeah, my issue is the white – I know the bride fairly well and she wouldn’t bat an eyelid at anyone else wearing white (she’s not even sure what she’s wearing yet).
Freezing for me is about 18 degrees C (I get cold far too easily; they may breed Australians tough with heat but we’re not very good at handling cold like those in the Northern Hemisphere!). Much to my horror they’re predicting 10 deg C with rain and wind for the next week, which seems to be the average here. So much for the Sunshine Coast 😛 Tropical weather always enjoys surprising us, too.
Also, as I’m also talking with a couple of other guests at the moment – they’re planning on tights and coats, too 🙂 does that help?
Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Really appreciate it.

Fellow Aussie bee! I would totally go with the polka dot outfit. It’s not like the overall impression of the outfit is white – it’s a very fun outfit. Maybe if you wore something red on your top half to break up the white – a statement necklace, a pashmina or a cropped cardi?
Just a thought, I think the outfit is lovely as-is.

@Koogie75: Thanks! Thinking the polka-dot outfit will be the one… and definitely will be using the statement necklace idea! Thanks again 😀
