The first time I ever went to Paris was in April… April 1’st to be exact. It was glorious!

People really don’t dress that much different in Paris. Avoid “tourist” clothes that say I’m American…khaki’s, hawaiian shirts, etc. But that’s it really?!

  • Comfy shoes are a given, yep bring those.
  • A couple of stylish dresses – of course!
  • Jeans.
  • Skirts.
  • Sexy, but comfy tops
  • Tshirts…but slightly more stylish tshirts (not the ugly boxy ones)
  • oooo. And sexy lingerie. You need that! Tongue Out

A teeny tiny backback… you’ll be walking alot and a purse can hurt your shoulders… never could figure out why I need to carry around so much more on vacay?

I hope that helps.

Weather in April is unpredictable; you could get glorious sunny weather, or you could get cold weather and rain. With that in mind, I would bring layers, as well as an umbrella.

My city-break staples are:

Comfortable walking shoes.

Comfortable jeans or trousers, with a top, cardigan/jumper, and coat/jacket.

Dress for the evening.

Umbrella.

Sunglasses.

Decent-size bag that’s easy and comfortable to carry, plus a smaller bag for the evening.

Paris is big, and there’s lots of walking if you’re sightseeing, as well as metro rides, so wear comfortable and practical clothes. If you pack cleverly, some day clothes will double-up for the evening eg dark blue or black skinny jeans are comfortable for the day, and worn with nice shoes, a nice top and some jewellery, are smart enough for the evening.

I agree with barbie86.  The weather in Paris is unpredictable in April.  I was there in early April once and it snowed one day and a few days later I was hanging out in a park with no shoes on and a light jacket.  Definitely pack and dress in layers.

Trench coats, lots of black and lots of scarves. It should be pretty cold there then and they wear TONS of black. I wear pretty bright colors and I got rude looks.

Love paris!

Oh and NOO sneakers/running shoes. They make fun of Americans for things like that.

Umbrella and fabulous coat are the main staples for April in Paris. The brighter and more fabulous the better (on both accounts).

I have read a lot of articles that say pack light (I’d agree with that considering my SO’s luggage was lost traveling to France the same day they decided to go on strike so avoid having to check important things) and wear essentially the same basic black wardrobe with a only a slight pop of color using a scarf while you are there.  They said neutral (ie-black) colored leggings, tunic, boots (I’d personally buy some stylish knee high walking boots), or ballet slippers, a jacket, and then each day switch out your scarf, hat, and jewelry.  Then bring one nice elegant evening outfit which honestly, unless you’re going to the same place every night, you could get away with wearing each time you needed to dress up since no one will know.  Unless you absolutely can’t wear the same thing once, only you will know that you wore the virtually the same outfit the day before so just recycle your outfits, but modify them each day so you don’t feel like your wearing one thing the whole week.

You could honestly pack for a whole week wearing those things in just a backpack and not even have to worry about checking a bag and look stylish and be comfortable

Ditto on the sneakers, even on light jeans.  My SO’s mom wore all white gym shoes and people were openly laughing at her.

lol! yes everything I have ever heard about french people is TRUE! All I wanted to say is Europeans dress NICE. Even their casual is very well put together. Just make sure you look good if you want to blend in:) My friend told me, if you feel the slightest bit slummy ( like when you just wear t shirt and jeans here) it will be like ten times worse over there.

@Angelz_love: Agreed. I never pack light on trips to Paris. I bring all the accessories and best outfits I can gather. I hate feeling frumpy in the City of Light, happened once and it won’t happen again!
