I start a new job Tuesday and would love to know what you wore, or if you don’t remember, what you would wear?
It will be cold here so I was thinking of wearing black slacks and a nice sweater or blouse. I am definitely open to any other ideas

LittleButtons : It depends on the job.

I wore slacks, a blouse with a cardigan, and nice flats. My job is fairly casual though, but it’s always best to be a little over dressed in cases like this until you figure out what’s acceptable.

Do you have a particular outfit that makes you confident professionally? Like a lucky outfit? I’d go with something like that.

julies1949 : it’s an office job with business casual attire.
craigslistgirl : I don’t have a lucky outfit necessarily but I feel confident in both the sweater and the blouse

LittleButtons : I would choose a blouse with a cardigan. If you just wear a sweater with no blouse and are too hot, you don’t have a layer to take off.

julies1949 : good point! The office I worked in was always either freezing or burning hot lol.

Bring layers in case it is freezing! Good luck on your first day 🙂

LittleButtons : I also start a new job on Tuesday! Congrats 🙂 Dress is also business casual, but my team let me know that they’re dressed down for winter break (it’s an office on a college campus) and when I dropped in a week or so ago, they were all in jeans and sweaters and even sweatshirts. I feel too weird about showing up in jeans on my first day, but I’m also not wearing a blazer either. I’m thinking a cute sweater with a button down underneath, black skinny pants, and a pair of boots. Probably nicer ones with a 3″ block heel. I’ve been living in my sorel slimboots for the past couple of weeks but I think they’re to casual for my first day, even though I know they’ll all be dressed down! Good luck!

Offices are always soooo cold and then magically get warm by the end of the day. I say blouse, cardigan and slacks and wear comfy shoes!

LittleButtons : I only know because it’s on my ID photo hahaha. Navy pant suit with a white button down shirt, pumps, pearl studs, and a watch. I work in a law firm and I don’t get that dressed up everyday any more but always go a step above for the first day while you scope out what everyone else is wearing.

It would be odd to me not wearing a jacket on my first day. Black slacks, top, blazer and cute shoes with a scarf to layer.

i think I have decided on this outfit.
Its a black ribbed sweater underneath that I can take my blazer off, as suggested. The pants are grey skinny slacks and black pumps. I also have a dainty long necklace. What do y’all think?
