Although I am getting married in May, I tend to be freezing cold in a halter top unless it’s 95 degrees out. Unfortunately, my dress has a halter top, which you can see here: http://www.bestbridalprices.com/images/alfredangelo/spr09/br/large/2012.jpg. Any suggestions for what I could wear over the dress during the day (not the ceremony) if I really need to warm up? I’m assuming a bolero of some kind is out because I have a halter… if you don’t think so, please tell me. 🙂

I think if you got the right bolero it would look good. Other choices would be a cardigan or some kind of pashmina or wrap.

I would look around for boleros, or maybe one of those faux fur ones. You can get some really nice vintage fur wraps also.

This is the shawl I used in January in NYC.

I have tons of ideas for you (I’m in a similar boat – i get really cold sometimes & I have no idea what the weather is going to be like on the big day).
My first suggestion is to look through blog photos – specifically the cadillac of wedding blogs – Style Me Pretty.com. Many brides have the problem of day wedding and then leaving at night in the cold. There was a particular bride recently (and of course I can’t find it) who wore a darling cropped knit light pink bolero – she looked like Ginger Rodgers i kid you not.
Second suggestion – think smaller rather than bigger. You want the focus to be on your face and neck, not your back. If you have to wear a department store cardigan, try to go a size smaller or find one that is cropped.
Third suggestion – look at vintage styled 1950’s cardigans – cashmere knockoffs with a little detailing around the neck – there are tons on ebay and you might even check Forever 21/H&M/Zara stores.Nordstroms department store is gearing up for prom hell so check the junior department for girly cardigans.
Fourth suggestion – Etsy. I love Etsy but just wish you could try things on with the gown to see how they photograph before you purchase. Below are some links of ideas. If you go with a pashmina, try to go with a light neutral so it balances with the dress.
Fifth suggestion – Anthropologie’s wedding site opens on 2/14. I’m sure there is going to be some sort of bolero in this collection – might not be priced right but it might give you some ideas.
Just some ideas of shapes and textures. Try knits and furs for drama 🙂
