I received an invitation in the mail for a reception. I do not know this woman very well. Fiance knows her they went to HS together. SHe is eloping in OCt and then having a gathering at the Bar/Restaurant/Grill place where she works in Nov. The invite says appetizer, cupcakes, and cash bar. I have never received an invitation like that so what the heck do I wear? Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I think a little black dress and a nice pair of heels would be just fine. It’s simple, not too formal, but still acknowledges the fact that this is a special occasion.

This gathering sounds as if it is very casual to me. Although it would be fine for you to dress up (I always prefer to be over dressed rather than under), it’s possible you will see other people at this event wearing everything from business attire to club attire to jeans.

@jessyrez: I’d throw on a pair of skinny trousers (I have a pair of tuxedo ones which are my go-to) and a great tank. You could always go with a black dress and heels. That is always appropriate! I don’t know what you typically like to wear, but I bought a pair of amazing ankle length silk pants from Ann Taylor and have been pairing them with a sheer black button down and a statement necklace.
