My husband and I are attending an evening wedding on April 2 in Ft. Lauderdale. I bought a cocktail dress months ago that I thought would be perfect for this wedding! However, we received the invitation a few weeks ago and it now says “Black Tie Optional.” My husband is in the wedding party, so he does not need to worry about his attire, however, I am worrying enough for the both os us.
The dress is this one: http://www.lastcall.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod491659&ecid=LCALRFeedJ84DHJLQkR4&ncx=n&uEm=%%affiliates%%&ci_src=14110925&ci_sku=T2XJJ&ecid=LCALR%5BINSERT_11_DIGIT_SITEID_HERE] but it is in pink.
I know that cocktail dresses are appropriate (these days) at a “Black Tie Optional” Wedding…but is this dress, in pink, appropriate?! HELP!!!

I think it’s a gorgeous dress but I think a knit dress is definitely too casual for a “black tie optional” wedding.

I had a black tie optional wedding, and the style of that dress looks totally fine! I would have been happy if any of my guests wore it 🙂 I do agree with a pp that the material is a little casual, however. I would try to dress it up with heels and accessories.

Women can wear a cocktail dress to a “black tie optional” event, but it is the fabric of this dress that causes me some concern that it is a bit on the casual side.
If I wore that dress I would definitley add some metallic accents with shoes, clutch etc.
I suggest you match the level of formality that your husband is wearing.

Definately OK, but I would be sure to add some extra “blig” with jewelry (maybe a nice cuff and dangle earrings and nice heels. No flats.

@TamiN: Thank you! It actually has the appearance of a satin-y-chiffon dress, rather than knit.

Ya if it doesn’t look like a knit dress then I think its fine. Nice shoes and accessories will be great with it

@hilsy85: Thanks! This is a relief!

to me that looks a little casual. More appropriate for a day wedding? I think cocktail dresses are ok as long as they are super fancy to make up for the fact that they are not truly “formal attire”.

That dress is really really cute! With the right shoes/ jewelry it can more formal.

I think its too casual based on the fabric. If it was satin, silk, shantung, taffeta, chiffon, lace it would be ok, but the knit fabric makes it seem like something I’d wear to the mall

I agree with dressing it up with some nice heels and jewelry.
