We used pros dor everything. We know people who are event planners, photographers, hair and make up artists, amazing bakers, and even a DJ, but I absolutely refused to mix business with friendship because it can go sour so easily. I decided I wanted to keep everything to do with the wedding on a strictly business level. I’ve seen, and experienced, one too many incidents where personal relationships were spoiled by business relationships.

We had outside professionals but that was only because our parents and grandparents paid for our wedding.

somathemagical :  we only used professionals…it just so happened that some of our friends and family ARE wedding professionals. My Mother-In-Law is a calligrapher, my husband’s best friend from college is an epic wedding cake designer (published in magazines, does cakes for $100k+ weddings), my cousin owns a hair salon, and a family friend is a member of one of the best bands in our area. So we used all of them and got either discounts/gifted services but I wouldn’t use friends who aren’t also people that get paid to work weddings regularly.
