I’m a street size 20/22 and need to try on dresses soon, my wedding is Oct 12 and most people i have talked to said they need at least 4 months to order a dress. I really want a Maggie Sottero dress but most places only have 14 or 18s, I know i cant fit in those without some serious spanx or something. What did you ladies wear underneath to help hold you in or flatten the tummy?

a lot of maggies are lace up which will help.. if you are dress trying- most places have the essentials but i used to tell my brides to bring along a nice long line bra, if they want spanx, and a nude pair of nylons and heels.. the salons should have the right slips whatever else is needed!
good luck hope you find one soon!

When I went to try on dresses I wore my spanx. But everytime I wear them, they are so uncomfortable so I think for the wedding I am going spanx-less. Whatever you wear to try on dresses, make sure that you feel comfortable in it.

I actually only wore my normal stuff and had to tuck bra straps in. If you’ve got stuff you want to wear on your day you should probably wear those with. I plan to go as minimally as possible underneath, so I was looking for dresses with great corsets built in.

I was given a corset and a slip.

I would wear the underwear that I would have on the wedding day.

I was advised to wear the undergarments that you are planning to wear with the dress when you try it on so that you will know the exact fit of the dress and how it will look. I am a 22/24 and also want a Maggie. I actually called 110 stores in 4 surronding states and my own and none of them had the one I was looking for in my size. I was AMAZINGLY lucky though, I found a shop 3 hours away that would order it for me to try on. 😀 Very unusual I know but call around and don’t give up. Maggie has a search on its website that will locate stores that sell their dresses, hence how I got a list of 110 stores. 🙂 Keep trying, maybe you’ll get lucky too!

I wore my spanx and just a normal bra. I didnt have a bridal bra yet because I did not know what type I would need for my dress

i wore boyshort underwear and a strapless bra, but they also provided a longline bra for me. most samples were waaay too big, so i needed the extra boobage to help fill them out, haha.

@tangeld: I did the same, regular underthings–I wasn’t expecting to try on, just look. Of course I ended up finding my dress! There is a corsetiere that works closely with the bridal salon so I will get a corset from there but I don’t need to get it until my dress comes in, about 3 1/2 months from now.

I wore my own strapless bra (they would have given me one if I hadn’t brought one) and a pair of underwear. My biggest advice is to wear something that covers your butt (and everything else “important”) because you will likely spend a decent amount of time in your underwear with a woman you’ve never met before!

I know I wanted i corseted dress so i just wore a white strapless bra and white boy shorts. I wanted a gown that would flatter my curves w/o the extras. So it depends on what type of dress you are looking for.

I just found the most amazing Spanx and thought I would share. I bought them for a bridesmaid dress I am wearing this weekend.
It is the high power brief and soooo comfortable (versus the ones that come down your legs). Plus you don’t have to worry about anyone seeing it or leg lines.

I wore the undies I plan to wear on the day (Lane Bryant full briefs — help to smooth everything out without making you feel like a sausage, and the strapless bra I’ll be wearing on the day.
However: DON’T worry about trying to “suck it in” to a smaller size — if you’re in the ball park with a 14ish/18ish, they’ll simply clip the dress on you so you can see how it looks. I bought mine this way, so no worries.
