I hardly ever just buy an item for a bridal shower. I usually come up with something cute, like a recipe and all the tools to make it, or a colander as a vase filled with hand towels and kitchen linens as flowers.
BUT I am running low on ideas and my stepbrother is getting married two weeks before me. The shower is a week before mine and I haven’t had time to think of anything clever, and it’s coming up fast.
What have you seen?

We have this store in our area – its local produce, cakes, sushi, min-grocery store – everything!
They have a kitchen area that allows you to prep up to 12 meals in 2 hours and then take them home to freeze and use at a later date. They do all the chopping, grating, dicing, etc and everything is divided up into stations by recipee.
My 2 cousins got me a gift certificate to make 6 meals – which each entree feeds 4-6 people so we can split it up into 12 actual meals. Its one of the best gifts I got and will be awesome when we have a dinner party! Each month they have 20 different meals to choose from.
How about a place that does cooking lessons? Another friend of mine recieved that as a gift….

Some of my favorite shower gifts include a “year of gifts” Seasonal gifts that the newlyweds will use to decorate their home with year round. A basket of goodies… using a Longaberger basket… because the basket is as much a gift as the stuff inside. In this case, the bride will be a part of your family. One of my friend’s has a family tradition to give the bride a dozen roses to welcome the bride into their family. The bouquet is presented at the shower, and given by the women in the groom’s family. I’ve also gotten beautiful antique linens for a bride who would appreciate it as well as stylish serving bowls that fit the bride’s taste!

I got a pizza stone for my bridal shower and LOVE it. We keep it in our oven but we also cook our pizzas on it. You could do a pizza stone, roller, cheese grater, and some sauce or something like that with a pizza cookbook (dont know where to find one!) OR you could do a bath set – like get a cute little trash can and use that as your “vase” and fill with nice scented soaps, monogrammed hand towels or hand towels that match the decor of their house, toothbrush holder, etc.
I hope that sparks some ideas for you!

I like the seasonal gift idea too!!
@clarebee: We got 2 pizza stones too! and I love them! we got a round one for pizzas only and then I got a rectangular one for cookies – I haven’t tried baking cookies on them yet but I heard they taste fabulous!

I usually buy the brides martini glasses off her registry then buy alcohol/ingredients to make a specific martini. For the shower I am attending this Sat, I am doing a traditional gin martini with Bombay Sapphire since her main wedding color is sapphire blue.

Instead of the inside of the home, why not help them decorate the outside? Get an outdoor mat, a nice pot for plants, seeds, potting soil, a watering can, a wreath for the door (if they’re into that), etc. Not sure if they have a porch and they like flowers and landscaping and such but it is a different idea that would set the stage to welcome people into their new home.

These are great ideas! Keep them coming. I’m sure I’m not the only one being helped out!

I agree with the pizza stone idea. We’ve had one for a few years and absolutely LOVE it!
One of my favorite gifts was from a friend who knew we liked to cook. She bought us a bread basket and decorative kitchen towel off our registry, and then also bought us a box of specialty spices from Penzey’s. Mmm. Even if the bride/groom aren’t huge cooks, there are wedding themed spice boxes from the store that cover all the basic spices any kitchen should have.

One guest at my bridal shower actually made me a binded recipe book with her own recipes and as an accompanyment gave a beautiful spice rack. Not on my registry, but very creative and def something I will use.
Just be careful going off registry though. We specifically did not register for any baking utensils because we do not bake and hate sweets in general and people for some reason went all out off the registry and bought us all kinds of bakeware and ingredients for sweets. We will not only never use them, we now don’t have anywhere to put them so we have to sell all those gifts.

at my daughters shower one of my friends gave her the best and funniest gifts. one bag included “His idea of a romantic evening ” this included a six pack of beer, a bag of chips, a raunchy lingere item for her etc, the second bag had items for ” Her idea of a romantic evening. ” it had a set of wine glasses, a bottle of wine, a beautiful nightgown! you could chnge it up and add dinner for two at a nice restaurant, movie tickets etc. hsi could include a trashy dvd and coupons for a local sports bar! this could be put together as a gift from the bridal party or bridesmaids etc, i know it would be alot for one person to do! but it was hilarious and really nice as well!

@Mrs. Alias: Yeah I typically try to include something from the registry, but I just took a look at theirs and there are not that many items total (nothing bought off of them yet) and all of the things they registered for are WAY out of my price range.
But I do love the pizza stone idea– I think that will probably be my choice this time.

@sironel: YAY! Seriously I would have never bought myself a pizza stone nor would I have registered for one or thought that I wanted one, but we made pizzas all the time so it really is perfect! It helps control the temperature of your oven if you leave it in there as well.

“staying in”: i gave the couple a popcorn maker (to make kettle corn- it was on their registry) plus some dvds of classic movies.
“cassie’s cakes”: i got the bride a cake plate from her registry, then copied down a bunch of my favorite cake recipes into a cute booklet.

Also – I received this as a gift from all by BMs – I posted this on another thread as a gift idea…..I cried like a baby whe I got this!
They bought a 6 bottle wrought iron wine rack. There were 5 different bottles of wine and a bottle of champagne. Attached to each bottle was a little card attached by some ribbon on pretty cardstock. Each card read something different…..
The night you have dreamed of is finally here
The future surrounds you with hope and yet fear
You’ve wanted so long to find your perfect mate
Sip this wine and toast this perfect date
The night is meant for you to share
Enjoy each other – a perfect pair!!
When fights occur and tempers get hot
Pour a glass and be thankful for what you’ve got
If you always agreed it would certainly be a bore
And by asking for Krissy’s hand Bernie is surely
in for more!
Been married a year, where did the time go?
No longer newlyweds, now you are pros
Hope the days found you in good health and
Keep saying I love you –
one always needs to hear it!
Now toast this first date, it’s certainly not the last
And as you build your future don’t ever forget
“First Dinner Party”
Open your home to entertain and eat
Catch up with old friends and new ones to meet
When the night is over share this bottle of wine
But don’t sit down yet – it’s clean up time!!
A wise man said wine is better than beer
And now is the season for lots of holiday cheer
So pop the cork and relax a bit,
And when the night is through,
Kiss goodnight, close your eyes
And Santa will be good to you!
The news that a baby will soon share your life
will make you a mother, not only a wife
You’ll see it through good times and sometimes
______ the loving mother
and _____ the dearest dad
Sadly _____ (groom) must drink this one alone, and _____(bride) with an empty glass
Sit back and relax – nine months will quickly pass!
