This is my dress, aka Metis
and these are my shoes
I m 5’6” and 115 lbs so I fit this dress pretty much like the model does.
I’m having many ideas for the veil but am not sure which one fits the most… at any rate, about all the ideas I have are for custom made veils LOL So I will need to have it done I just don’t know which one I like the best.
So here are the options I’ve thought of so far:
- a “regular” silk tulle oval mantilla with scalloped ivory Alencon trim (not beaded, not sequined, but light colored Swarovski here and there ARE a definite possibility), waltz length.
Pros: It would match the lace of the gown, and the scalloped border of the skirt.
Cons: I’m afraid it’s “too much” in a way (as in too much lace) and “not enough” in another (a veil that is too similar to the gown or too simple looks like it’s not there).
- a silk tulle rectangular mantilla, with either embroidery (no beads, no sequins) or another kind of lace in cream/ecru/champagne or greige like this one: and would look pretty much like an Indian dupatta!!.
Pros: The veil, being different from the gown, would pop out. The lace would need to be different from Alencon, have some “dots” here and there and some wider mesh details, in order to match the gown’s lower part.
Cons: It could look like it’s too much.
- a silk tulle oval mantilla with scalloped silk ribbon or corded floral embroidery (but no beads or sequins, light colored Swarovski ARE a definite possibility) in cream/ecru/champagne or greige, waltz length:
Pros: this would be kind of a hybrid between options 1 and 2 but the fine embroidery and the way silk drapes would make me look more “ethereal” I think. At the same time, the floral cord would reprise the Alencon to a certain extent.
Cons: it might look too different from the gown.
- a modified version of this mantilla, in sillk, waltz length:
starting from this veil
Pros: I think the vertical lines will match the vertical stripes of lace in my gown meanwhile the silk flowers (roses), denser around the head and on the top part of the veil, would balance the distribution of the flowers on my gown (all down, around the hem). However, I would probably need less flowers than this mantilla has, and possibly I would add in some wispy ostrich feathers (that will match my bouquet’s). I could also put some color in it, given that my wedding colors are subtle (greige, champagne, vintage pink, diamond white — with all the various shades, definitely NOT a pantone wedding!!). As an alternative, the flowers could be lace appliques, and not necessarily in Alencon. I think it would be even better if the appliques had some of those “dots” and wider mesh I was talking about in option 2. Here, too, light colored Swarovski ARE a definite possibility!
Cons: I can’t think of many aside from the further browsing and the choices of materials.
What do you all think?
Please if you’ve read it so far, do not answer “I like it” or “I don’t like it” without telling me what is right or wrong about that choice… I’m a very logical person and I need logical reasons to make a choice (stuff like “styles don’t match”, “It looks inbalanced” etc).
