I’m kinda stuck between going to 2 vets & I’d rather have just 1 vet but I can NOT decide which one o go with. I like my pets going to the same vet because its easier & also because they’ll know all info on all my pets. Help?
Original vet Pros/Cons:
*Have been taking my dog there for the past 4 years.
*More technologically advanced, in-house lab with results in 1-3 hours.
*24/7 helpline free of charge (called 2am on Easter sunday after my dog ate a highly toxic plant & they helped me thru it over the phone, no charge cause I go to their vet office)
*Can be extremely busy & can take up to a week to be seen (sometimes just a day or so) & they do have an emergency center so I could be seen in emergency.
*2 vets, 1 tech, & 1 other staff person, all are nice but are too busy to talk. Its like come in, say hello, get the shots, leave.
*Is about 5mins away from home & from my work, easier to get to
*I like them & trust them.
New vet Pros/Cons:
*More availability, 3 vets, a few techs, plus other staff. Open on Saturdays too!
*More friendly, remember me (but I have been in a lot due to the kitten saga).
*No in-house lab, can take up to 24 hours to learn results because things have to be overnighted across the state.
*I can call & be seen that same day (since they have more vets/staff avail)
*Across town, takes around 20mins to get there, so harder to get to & I’ve been kept waiting for about 10-15mins as the vet helps someone else during my visit.
*Has kept interest & genuinely care about kittens & they like to have updates.
*Advised me to return kittens when we found out they had ringworm, which really put me off from them, but they were the only ones available to help them (all other vets were booked for a week, I called about 10 vets)
I’m having problems deciding which vet to go with :/.

I say stay with the original because to me the Emergency thing is really important. My dog is…special and likes to hurt himself or cause trouble with other dogs so we have had to take him to our Emergency vet clinic multiple times. Its reassuring to know that there is always someone there to call or go to. For example, my dog was playing with another dog who was startled and bit him hard on the nose. We had to take him to the emergency vet and get him looked at. As a puppy he didn’t realize how small he was and in playing with big dogs he would often get run over, literally. Well one time another dogs nail went into his eye and his eye was bleeding. So to me the emergency thing trumps all.

I’d stay with your original vet, because like you said, you trust them. It sounds like even though they are crazy busy and it can take a while for a routine visit, they do have those emergency options there for you. To me, the 24 hour line would be a big plus, because if mine is going to get into trouble, she is going to do it at 2 am.
The returning the kittens really turns me off from the second vet…Personally, I wouldn’t have gone back after a comment like that about a treatable problem.

I called my original vet & they do free kitten exams :). I’m going to take em in on Oct. 26th. I made it so late so that they have more of a chance recovering from the ringworm so they can get their shots. I wish I could get em both fixed this month cause they have good discount, but I don’t want to risk it with the ringworm :(. So… original vet it is!

It sounds like your original vet is perfect!

So I’m definately switching vets now. I called the new vet for more meds & they said they’ll fax the prescription to the pharmacy right away
I call the pharmacy at 4:30 & they tell me they didn’t get a fax or call from the vet. They tell me they’ll call the vet & get a confirmation from them. The vet calls my husband & says they’re not going to refill it, the kittens “should be better by now cause they looked so good last time they saw them”.
So then I call the vet & they say they’ll fax the prescription over. The pharmacy calls me around 5:20 saying my prescription’s ready.
Get to the pharmacist at 5:45 & the vet only faxed over a part of the order (for Murphy, but not Conner). But the vet’s closed now & so I can only take home Murphy’s. I’m so frustrated. I’m out of meds for Conner but will just give him Murphy’s.
