The quality of the fabric was what made me set on one dress. Mmmmmm textiles… mmmmm real silk. However Im looking at taking my Bachelors in textiles so its kinda really important to me.

It was the way I felt in the dress that did it for me.  I tried on many beautiful dresses, a few that I really liked, but when I tried on my dress it was different.  It was the consultant who suggested I try it on, it looked plain but I agreed.  Once I saw myself in the mirror, and I saw the look on my friends’ faces, I knew this was the one for me.  I could visualize myself walking down the aisle with THAT dress.  That’s how I chose it.

This sounds crazy, but I let my dad make the final choice!

@jjah89:  I know there are some nice dresses at places like DB but wow a lot of there dresses I wouldnt even be able to touch. I have a very sensitive touch to things like this. Also sound makes a big difference to me.

I had a final handful, but one had a slight edge to it (it was the first one that I thought ‘maybe?’) and was the one that I would have been most sad about – had I not been able to buy it.

I also was sick of dress shopping and wasn’t sure I’d ever get that ‘THIS IS MY DRESS’ type feeling.

I also tried on a dress that was about 5K over budget and that’s when I realized – I just needed to buy the other one…

What helped me (ultimately) is narrowing it down every visit.  I’d narrow it down to a handful and then come back a different day.  The fresh perspective really helped me. I got maxed out easily – so, doing it this way, was a little less daunting.

The back of my dress sold it for me–3 cascading tiers—LOVE it!!! And the fact that the rest of the dress was almost to the T what I was looking for!

@jjah89:  Great prices often come with poor textiles unfortunetly. Some people really arent affected by it and I am honestly jealous sometimes.

@naturalysam:  well everyone Considers different factors when dress shopping… I was set on satin but changed my rules when I found my dress. I just got it that’s why I keep posting about it lol!

@Miss Sardine:  I think it also varies on everyhting. There are a few well priced satin dresses out there I didnt mind but usually Im not a fan (I love how it looks tho). I walk in a store when shopping for clothing and I may as well be blindfolded I do everything by touch. I think there are a wide range of ways of judging a dress from cut to construction to embelishment to textiles etc and each person has its own importance on each item which ends up in the end the perfect dress for them. I do not bash any personal choices of dresses and support all styles as long as each person can figure out in there head what is important. I love that this thread brought up what makes the dress the one.

i used to work in bridal, and i was married before – so i NEVER believed in that feeling..well i had tried on a few, liked some- even bought a cheap one online an HATED it.. It was a satiin and thats what i thought i wanted.

went out again- tried the dress on and i LOVED it instantly..i didnt want to take it off, i got a rush of warmth and jitters and it hit me! that OMG THIS IS MY DRESS

my dress is a taffeta and iwas worried i wouldnt love it later so i did try on 2 others after just to see if that feeling stayed and it DID..i started to tear up…my daughter looked at me an said MOM THIS IS YOU DRESS..thats all she wrote..i cant wait to waer it,,and even David Tutera couldnt get me to change my mind!
