@Candy_Nee:

@travellingfool:

Thank you for your posts about the rock and play!  DS will be 8 weeks old tomorrow and he still won’t sleep for any meaningful length of time anywhere but in my or my husband’s arms.  Going to try this.

@MexiPino:  I second the giraffe! My little guy loves it!

@sailor:  Good luck – I hope it works for you!  It totally did for my SIL.  And for me

Don’t waste your effort on the wipes warmer. We haven’t used ours once.

Sophie the Giraffe and Aden and Anais swaddle blankets are a must.

We use the pack n’ play all the time. I wish we hadn’t bothered with a bassinet. She outgrew it so soon and we could’ve just used the pack n’ play like we are now.

I’d get a bouncer or a swing. We have limited space, so we went for the bouncer.

Get a quality carrier. We have a Moby wrap and an ErgoBaby. We used the Moby exclusively for the first few months and now we use both, but more often the Ergo because it’s easier to get on and off. In addition to being the easiest way to carry a baby for a bit of a longer trip out, it’s also a great way to get baby to sleep.

I go a travel system. I kind of wish I had just gotten the seat (Chicco Keyfit 30–which is AMAZING) and then the caddy and a lightweight umbrella stroller. The travel system stroller is really quite big.

The Fisher Price Discovery PlayMat with the piano on it is a HUGE success. My best friend had one and when Dear Daughter played on it, she was in heaven. I bought one the next day.

Baby #1 on the way, just a note about the wipe warmer: a friend’s doctor said not to get a wipe warmer because they could help breed bacteria, as it makes the container warm and moist. I opted to not register for one of those.

We’re not registering as people here only gift clothes and blankets so again we’ll be buying all our baby gear ourselves.  I am on #4 so I am getting all the things that I loved wit my first 3 kids:

Swing: all 3 kids LOVED thier swing so I am def getting another

Bouncer:  All 3 kids loved their bouncer so this was a must as well.  We just bought a fisher price one last week and cannot wait to set it up and for baby to use it.

Pack and play: that comes with the attached basinet and changing table.  We’re not getting a crib with this baby so this will be his bed for the 1st year or so of life then we’re getting bunk beds maybe for him to share with his brother.

Playmat: LOVED this thing and am getting one again with this baby.

Baby carrier: cannot tell you how handy this is to strap baby in it while doing chores around the house or for outings where you don’t want to bother with a stroller and need both hands free.

Stroller and carseat: we got a travel system as a gift with baby #1 but just got a car seat and separate stroller with babies 2 and 3.  So missed having a travel system so we’re getting one.  BUT we’re getting the joggin one as dh and I are both runners and want to be able to exercise with baby.  We already saw one we love and want to get.

high chair: for later down the road I guess but all 3 kids loved eating in their high chair so it;s a mucst for me, NOT a booster though as we don’t have enough dining chairs.

Activity center: oh did baby #3 love his.  he spent so much time in it playing with his big sister watching Tv while I made lunch.

Something I want to get with this baby I never had or knew existed is that portable rocker thing that babies that sleep in.  I am getting it for our room.  I think those are the BIg items.

Smaller items: nasal aspirator is a lifesaver with the nose drops. Teething toys and paste. Diaper bag or some sort of bag to tote all your baby things in. Some sort of musical toy for the crib/carseat.

I have a few favs:

– Nosefrida–I thought this thing seemed unnecessary and didn’t end up purchasing until he was 7 months old with an awful cold.  The verdict—We wished we had it all along.

– Aden & Anais swaddle blankets–these are the most versitile baby item ever.  They can be used as a carseat cover, stroller blanket, burp cloth, floor blanket, etc.  I also felt more comfortable putthing the baby in the crib with them since they were thin and breathable.  FYI the Target versions are a cheaper variety (smaller and tougher fabric).

–  Swing– this is a must.  The fisher price snugga-bunny is the one we ahve.  You can often find them at consignment shops in great condition.

–  Carters Sleep n plays-  The newborn size comes with cuffs that fold over into mittens.  GENIUS so you don’t have to buy those tiny mittens to prevent scratching when they sleep.  Buy from a real carters store.  The target version does not have them.

I also recommend having all the baby meds on hand ready to go.  (infant tylenol, hylands teething tablets,   1% hydrocordizone creme,   etc.)  You never know if your baby is going to all the sudden pop out a tooth and you don’t want to be without.

First of all – BuyBuyBaby rocks!!  Love that place!

Bouncer seat – I use this on a daily basis.  I have one new one that I got off my registry for our main floor and a used one from my SIL that I use on our second floor (mainly to put DS in when I’m showering).

Pack n Play – I use this on the main floor as a changing table and for DS’s naps (he also naps in the bouncer).

Blankets – LOVE the Aden + Anais muslin swaddle blankets.  I have 3 sets of these.  I use multiple blankets on a daily basis.

Burp Cloths – My favorite, by far, are the Aden + Anais burpy bibs.  They are amazing. I had 3 to begin with and ended up buying 5 more.  And I’ll probably buy a couple more in the future.

Changing Pad – I have 2 changing pad covers.  One on the changing pad and one as a back up.  Also, changing pad liners (by Boppy) are a life saver.  It’s so much easier to change those if they get peed or pooped on than the actual changing pad cover.
