Honestly we got a lot of nice expensie gifts like copper pots and pans and Le Creuset… but I think the best wedding gift was 2 crystal champagne flutes from my little brother.  I almost cried when we opened them.  It just meant so much to me that this 20 year old kid went into the department store, and got them for us off our registry.

We wanted mostly money for our honeymoon, knowing that some guests will have other things in mind:-) The most WOW- present was buy my husband’s aunt. She lives in Williamsburg and came all across the atlantic for our wedding. She gave us four chrystal beautiful champagne flutes, four different colours, from Fabergé! (@Miss Eagle: I had to smile when I read your answer:-) We were overwhelmed! We both had tears in our eyes. But we were also overwhelmed how many thoughts our guests put in their money presents! We’ve taken a picture of every single one before we had to destroy them:-(

I would say that cash was the best gift.  I was terribly afraid of our guests paying huge, full retail for things and getting “ripped off.”  When they gave us cash, we got our registery completion discount, plus I was able to make the dollars go soo much further.

A pottery serving tray was pretty awesome (off registery), but it was part of a gift full of on-registry items in case we didn’t like it.

My Mother-In-Law sewed us a beautiful quilt. That was definitely the best gift we got!

I think the one that *meant* the most to me was from Mrs. C, my next door neighbor growing up. She was part of my “village,” and has been part of a lot of my different life events. In addition to a very generous check for the two of us, she gave me a beautiful small glass dish her husband’s mother had decorated- an heirloom family piece.

I was so touched by this, that I was special enough to her, for her to gift this to me. Makes me smile every time I see it.

We recieved money and gifts from my boss but I had invited one of my best clients to my wedding. So was not able to make it but when she came in the following month so had tears in her eyes but tears of joy. She had went out and bought a very expensive frame (she forgot to take te price off from the back) and it had beautiful bible scriptures about love. I teared up with her cause she didnt have to.

While at the time I was annoyed at “non registry gifts” I received. (I think I just don’t like surprises at all??). The off registry gifts have been my absolute favorites! I received a couple of special platters and wall art that I really love looking at daily!

Something I was sad not to receive was one of those “The PinkMagnolias. Est. Nov 5, 2011” wall plaques. But I bought myself one for Christmas!

Cash was the most helpful. The day of our wedding, we didn’t know if we would have enough money to go on our honeymoon. We knew that a few of our older relatives would probably give us money, but when we opened all the cards that night we were overwhelmed! It took care of our honeymoon and our first month’s rent.

But I think the sweetest gift we received was from a couple that we have become close friends with over the last year. Darling Husband and I are big readers, and they knew we were having trouble fitting all of our books combined on the bookcases we have. So they bought an old bookcase, and then painted it to match our new room, added some decorations and then painted on all of these wonderful book quotes! It is absolutely adorable, and we feel so special that they took the time to make something just for us!

Hands down: http://www.amazon.com/Bilz-Obstacle-puzzle-money-certificates/dp/B000S0TNF0 We got $100 bill in it and although our folks gave us astronomically more than the $100, it was the fun and intent behind it. The card read: something else to do on your honeymoon. We worked on it for like 30 minutes. Then Darling Husband got access to the $, and then shut it so I would have to do it again. It’s still sitting on our counter. Hmmm, I should probably hide that puppy.

HANDS DOWN- my parents giving us 1000 dollars cash as a wedding present after they had just paid for the whole wedding.  I couldn’t even believe it.  They are so generous and I was so touched that they did that when they REALLY didn’t have to.

The cash from his parents, my family and our guests. We put the money into saving and use it in combination with our saving for down payment for our home. Best gift ever. Without the gift, it would take a little longer for the home.
