My SO and I are planning to get married and the whole idea of wedding planning has been so stressful that the idea of a destination eloping came up into conversation. I’m assuming that a destination eloping and honeymooning is kind of the same thing, right? We want to get married sometime next year during the summertime so we have plenty of time to search for vacation spots.
So how much did your honeymoon cost? Where was it?
Have any of you bees eloped? Did you regret it at all? How did others (family/friends) react to it?

We considered eloping but it wasn’t right for us. As a result though we made our honeymoon the priority. We made sure to have the wedding at a time when we could take two weeks for the honeymoon. We also gave ourselves a generous budget for our honeymoon, about a third of the overall cost of the wedding (including everything). We spent just over £4000 so about $5200 (probably closer to $5500 when we booked) USD). We then went to the travel agent and asked the price of the poshest hotel in the brochure, it came in under budget! So we have two weeks in a Caribbean resort with butler service, a spa and a sunset beach. As we made it a priority, our reception (including catering) cost less than our honeymoon, we fed everyone and they had a great time but it wasn’t the “best” venue ever, it was just a best western hotel. If you don’t elope, you can just make your honeymoon a priority (plus nobody makes your honeymoon about their expectations it seems everyone just lets you get on with it, which is perfect after having a wedding mostly for others).

We spent about $8K for 2 weeks in Thailand. We went to 3 different cities (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and the beach at Krabi). It was great because while it was expensive to fly there once we were in Thailand everything was super cheap. We stayed at a hotel at the beach in a villa with a private pool that was amazing and we definitely did everything we wanted to do while there so I thought $8K was pretty good.

Eloping wasn’t right for us, but we love travelling so we made sure to set aside a decent budget for the honeymoon. We spent about $5k on two weeks in Indonesia. We stayed at luxury hotels, but everything is very inexpensive there.

We live in Ontario and went to Montreal, Quebec for our honeymoon. We took the train and spent five days and four nights. All expenses included our honeymoon cost $3,000. Considering all the galleries, exhibits and museums we went to (which all charge admission) this was a pretty good deal 🙂

$7,400 CAD before factoring in spending money, taxi’s and food which will bring us to about $10,000. We splurged and are staying in some Relais &Chateau hotels in France. Can easily be done for much cheaper but YOLO, right?

It was about $1500 USD. We spent one night at a five star hotel, then spent a week at Yellowstone and different places near it. This included lodging, food, activities (rafting, canoeing, horseback riding, etc).
ETA: We did consider eloping and even had the spot picked, but it would have caused more family drama than it was worth.
