We did a last minute getaway to Carmel, CA labor day weekend, about 2 weeks after we started dating.

It was very much spontaneous and we had so much fun (when it very easily could have been awkward), just hanging out, walking around and talking — FI says that’s when he knew.

Our first trip was to Vegas.  We were going to see my friends from California bowl in Vegas.  It was my old league so I had known most everyone for about 20 years.  I’m an ex gambler.  Not just any old gambler,  an addict gambler.  I stopped cold turkey when I got custody of my first foster baby I later adopted.  So I had been sober for a few years.  Well that addict beast came out in Vegas.   We had only been together for 4 months at that point.  Luckily he was already smitten if not in love by then that he was able to look past the beast.  That is the only time I have gambled since 2008 and that was in 2010.

First time we went away for a few days was after 4  1/2 years of dating. We went to Busch Gardens. We probably would have gone some where sooner, but I was in college and living with my parents, so they were (and even now can be) strict.

We took a road trip to Chicago (we live in Michigan, so not a long trip) for a long weekend after we’d been dating for 4 or 5 months. Our first actual get-on-a-plane trip was to California for the Coachella festival, after nearly a year of dating. We’ve gone to the festival every year since!

craigslistgirl:  FI (soon to be DH… two more weeks, eeek!) and I go camping every fall, and have been every year since we started dating. We’re in Virginia,  and usually camp in VA, WVA, or NC. So camping was our first official getaway alone.

FI is 30, but their family is still so close and all the family (plus spouses/kids) go on vacation to Folley Beach, South Carolina as well every summer, so I did that as well (before camping) but didn’t know if that counted for this since we weren’t alone, haha.

“Our” first trip was actually me coming to meet him in person for the first time about two months in. (Met online- LDR). Then him coming out to visit me a few times and the back and forth that an LDR brings.

Then together we road tripped all of his stuff from his place to our place that we got together.

We’ve also gone on regular vacations a ton now. The first probably being about… three weeks after moving in together lol. Visiting lots of family, just for fun trips… We both love driving for fun to explore the area and big travel excursions too so it worked out great.

SO and I traveled our junior year in college to Destin, Fl for spring break. We had been together for maybe 5 years, so it was definitely anticipated. I’m our defense we were in hs when we meet so parents obviously weren’t going to let us travel together lol and the other years we were both broke college students,  enough money for rent and food lol.  So when we finally did go I was anxious about traveling together but we had a blast. Wresting on the beach by the water and just checking out local resturants/hang outs. Romantic and low key and lots of fun.

We drove down to San Francisco and Santa Cruz. I got a kidney infection on the trip and spent a night in the hospital, but I didn’t want to ruin our trip so I toughed it out. The medicine they gave me for the infection caused nausea in sunlight and I ended up puking on the beach.

It was the least romantic vacation we’ve ever been on lol. I’m surprised he stayed with me after that!

One year after we started dating, we took a 15 day road trip through the southeast US! First went down to Houston. We’re not big on Texas (no offense, Texans!) but Houston had some amazing museums! Also visted NASA which was a dream for me 🙂 Then drove along the Gulf coast. Stopped in New Orleans and ate some great Cajun food. Stopped a couple more places before arriving in Florida. In Florida, we visited Little Talbot Island. It was great, we walked so far out on the beach that we couldn’t even see people anymore. Then worked our way north. Spent a few days in Savannah, GA, where my FI grew up. Gorgeous!! There are countless other places we visited on this trip, but it would take too long to discuss it all. Wonderful first trip as a couple.

Our first trip together was to Telluride, CO about 2 months after we met/started dating. I remember all of my friends thought I was brave to spend 14 hours in the car with a new BF, and they said it would probably either make or break us. We had an amazing time! We hiked up the mountain to the top of the waterfall, went to the little market and ate bread, cheese and wine for dinner, and picked out which cabins we would want to live in if we could move there. When we got back home, he asked if I wanted to look at rings with him. We were engaged 4 months later! 🙂

Bruges, Belgium for the Christmas markets. We’d been together about 3 months. Absolutely loved it.
