So I’m a mum but I totally get this.

before I caught baby fever I went to visit my friend and her newborn. He was such a cute baby but as we left I said to Darling Husband that I did NOT want one any time soon.

Newborns are amazing contraception lol

I’ve been CFBC for years now and I’m not sure I ever had a defining “NOPE!” moment. It’s more that I never really saw myself enjoying having kids around all the time, and throughout my adult life every time I’m around kids my decision not to have them grows firmer. I love kids.. absolutely adore them.. but I have a pretty short limit on just how much kid time I can take.

chrissybee :  basically every single text i routinely get from my new-parents friends about diaper blow outs. Why do people think that anyone else wants to know about this?!?

but yeah – there is no one single NOPE moment, but rather lots of them over and over and over again. (Like every moment of visiting our 3.5yo nephew).

For me it’s never been one big NOPE moment, but sort of like a sliding scale.  I started in the middle, 50/50 on whether I wanted kids, but as I got older I just slid further towards the NOPE side.  Mostly it’s an accumulation of little moments and always having the thought “If I didn’t have kids I could…travel, have Disney annual passes, go to the spa, run of to Yosemite for the weekend, etc.)

When I was little, I thought babies were born by cutting open women’s bellies and taking them out (basically a C section). When I was 7 or 8 my sister told me where they REALLY come from… that was my first big NOPE moment. Probably combined with being forced to babysit when I was 13-14 for my nieces and my mom’s friend’s kids. I never liked kids to begin with, even when I WAS a kid, I never liked hanging out with children my own age. I was always rushing to grow up. As an adult, I like seeing my nephews a few times a year, and I can appreciate a cute baby. That’s about it.

There isn’t one nope moment, there are thousands of raging nope moments from misbehaving children in stores and restaurants to horror stories about your mom’s friends who you think did everything right as parents and their children are STILL awful people to the feeling I’ve always had that just tells me kids are not for me. I don’t want that as my life. I’ve never wanted that as my life.

I didn’t really have a nope moment.  My life just put me in this position and I’m very content with it.

I have 4 siblings and when I was growing up, a lot of their care was pawned off on me.  By the time I was in my late teens, I felt like I had already raised a family.

If I had to pick a nope moment, I was on a train one time with a guy who had his three daughters with him and he was at his wit’s end. The youngest daughter was fussing and he was paying attention to her and I heard him say, “Where are your shoes? Why are your socks all wet?!” and then while he was turned around the other daughters were now pretending to be cats. Just as he’s located the baby’s shoes and gotten them back on her, he yells, “Oh God, stop licking the seats!” The two cats had progressed from licking themselves and each other to licking the ancient train seats. I just went, “Nope, nope, nope.”

NikkiBee18 :  Amazing and also hillarious! I once witnessed a woman have a total meltdown outside of a Trader Joes becasue her kid was having a tantrum while sitting in the cart. Shouting “look at me! The worst mother ever!”  It was very public and pitiful and I absolutley felt for how her day was going. She was clearly a competent and sane woman pushed too far haha. I was always on the fence but now in my mid 30s I’m happy and comfortable with my path and luckily my partner is 100% on board with DINK.

Here is one, when I was going with a guy who had a kid, we were all out and the kid would not stop crying.

Here is the punchline. He was 9 years old.

I was watching Alien and got to the scene where the alien bursts out of the guy’s abdomen.  From that moment on whenever I saw a pregnant woman all I could see was a Xenomorph inside her.
