I was very flexible because we had an amazing friendor photog at a STEAL of a price, but below is my ‘must-have’ list I sent him a week before the wedding. I encouraged him to do anything above and beyond if he liked. Keep in mind I had a tiny beach wedding with family only….

-Venue sign by the road
Getting ready pics: dress hanging picture, one of my chihuahua (he’ll be with the girls getting ready, FI will give you the room # info). One of the guys getting ready would be nice, but you may not have time.
-Arch/ceremony setup before ceremony starts, the boardwalk down to the beach we’ll all walk down, any other scenery you feel like photographing.
-My brother playing the guitar as ceremony starts.
-Everyone walking down the aisle.
-FI & I standing as we say our vows.
– Sand ceremony pics- everyone walking up to pour the sand (whatever you can capture).
– Venue property pics (FI & I): Banyan Tree Pic, bridge pic, outside venue restaurant pic, beach pics.
Family Pics: One of everyone, only my family, only FI’s family, just us & our siblings, just us & our parents, Just the guys, just the girls, etc. (encouraged him to boss us around, it went alot faster 🙂
Artsy/detail pics we talked about: Rings on starfish (or on whatever), Feet pic in the sand, bouquet pic, FI’s boutonniere pic, cake table pic, cake up close, dinner table setup, centerpieces, “Bride & “Groom” chair signs on our chairs at the dinner table, a few of us having dinner, anything else you can think of.
– Us all lighting sky lanterns off the beach after dinner & cake.
– LOTS, LOTS, LOTS of FI’s 2 yr old nephew !! Especially of him walking down the aisle.

I’m not sure which resource I used now, or else I would link it, but it might be helpful just to google “wedding photographer pictures list” or something like that (no quotes) and you should be able to pull up a few and check your list against those.

You don’t really need to hand in a sheet telling your photographer you want shots of things like “bride walking down aisle” or “first kiss” or “us saying our vows”. Those are pretty much a given at any wedding unless you are hiring an inexperienced photographer. Usually when photographers ask you for specific shots they mean do you want any specific family groupings that are out of the ordinary like you and a godparent, or you and the great aunt that raised you. A lot of the times we will ask you if there are any specific details you want captured like a special button sewed to your bouquet handle or a tribute you are doing to your brother during the reception. You just want to make sure you list anything really special to you that you don’t want us to forget. But don’t worry about outlining every little thing like “Groom kissing bride”, etc.
