good to know he’s not creepily lurking in some corner all Blair Witch-like and has actually been put to good use!

I’m not gonna lie, I’d think it was really funny to have some hideous lawn gnome in my backyard…but definitely in the back yard!! hahaha.

Not a wedding gift (none yet, too early), but I am TOTALLY looking forward to our gift from FI’s mom.  Every year for Christmas she sends us a box with a bunch of random stuff in it – and by random, I mean RANDOM.

This year we got: a Mickey Mouse plastic wallet.  A men’s dress shirt that was about two sizes too big for her son.  Easter candy.  About the 30th holiday dish towel.  A children’s Snapple t-shirt.  A stuffed bear that you can heat up and it will retain heat for a while.

The best part is that this year she even included gift bags in her box-o-stuff so I could prep the gifts to put them under the tree.  One bag was truly a gift – it was a picture of one of those fluffy white dogs in Santa’s arms!  So creepy and awesome.  I displayed the bag for weeks.  Fiance and I have hunting dogs and don’t like little fluffy toy dogs, so it was really awesome.

Another thing to look forward to: on his dad’s side, two aunts come to California for Christmas every year from Greece and England, respectively.  They often come early and buy gifts here in the last minute sales.

So, for the last two years, I have gotten a winter hat or scarf or mittens from both of them.  I now have an impressive collection of winter ware, in a state that rarely falls below 40 degrees in temperature.  Being that I am originally from Ohio, lets just say I rarely find a need.  But I am prepared!

I am seriously hoping they send scarves for wedding presents.

At our shower this weekend, one of my mom’s friends cleaned out her pantry for our gift.  It was all weird food (like stewed tomatoes, canned olives, and canned chicken meat) and everything is nearing the expiration date.  She told us that she was "setting us up," but what do you cook with canned chicken?!  I think we’ll be donating to the local food pantry sometime next week.

Yeah, my sister was writing down all the presents and what I said about each one.  My comments when I got to that present were something like, "Oh, wow, looks like we have a whole meal here!  Too bad I don’t cook!"

I just had my bridal shower and I got a kitchen timer that I did not register for, with the packaging cut in half literally the plastic was all cut so it would fit in a little box. The box was a chocolate candy box that they just kept and put the timer in, but the timer didn’t fit, so they cut the packaging off so it would fit. I had 30 people watching me look at that gift, like what is this? I felt bad after but I thought it was a yo yo in a chocolate box!

hehehe this thread is amazing 😀 I haven’t gotten any gifts and I’m not sure if I will (I think it will be mostly money my mom said, since we aren’t having a shower). Lots of giggles reading this thread :p

I have a two-way tie.

First is not a wedding present, but my grandmother, when I was about 12 years old, gave me a maternity sweater. Now, keep in mind that this was when leggings and an oversized sweatshirt were COOL, but still, I was 12 years old and she wanted me to wear a sweater with an OBVIOUS baby bump!!!

Wedding related- when the Fiance and I got engaged, his mother gave me lingerie. Like, now that we were engaged, we could be intimate or something. BUT the worst part was that it was USED!!! It was her used lingerie!!! Needless to say, I have NOT seduced my Fiance in that little number.

EWWWWWWWWW. Sick. That’s up there with the used pantyhose my grandma would give my mom for Christmas.

I actually had found some lingerie (teal, lace, hideous) that my aunt had given my mom to wear on her wedding night. I regifted it to her and watched her open it up in front of all our family. It was HILARIOUS. Absolutely priceless. I have a picture of her holding it up for us all to see. It’s like this teddy thing with roses…it’s hilarious. I’m scared she wrapped it up and is giving it to me as a bachelorette gift.

Payback’s a B*tch!

at my cousin’s bridal shower, everyone from our side of the family bought her normal things on her registry… very PG. but someone from the side she was marrying into brought his-n-hers lube and crotchless panties… to brunch… with the flower girl in attendance. HILARIOUS.

My grandmother got me a giant box of random stuff from the dollar store when we got engaged. (dull, cheap knives, a low-end hand mixer (when I already have one), a dish towel with sparkles and butterflies on it) it was sweet of her but what the hell am I supposed to do with it all?

Honestly I wish we could register at bank of america. we already have dishes we like, we don’t have room for fine china, and I’ve already got an artisan mixer and a blender and a crock pot. what we could really use is $.

My boss just gave me a funny look for laughing out loud at all of these. We haven’t gotten anything strange yet but we will see!

Haven’t had our shower yet…but I can only imagine.

Last Christmas my Future Mother-In-Law got me a little wooden cartoon uncle-sam face plaque (almost identical to the one below)…my fiance’s in the military…I guess she decided we didn’t have enough US memorabilia in our home.

But my step-grandma is the worst…last Christmas she called and asked me if my fiance would like $100 for Christmas- I told her that was very generous and I’m sure he’d love it. A few weeks later a box arrives at our apartment…it’s a comforter set designed for I’d say about a 6 year old girl complete with matching lamp and candy dish. I’m 23 haha…and definitely no $$ for the fiance lol.

But my step-dad has it even harder at Christmas- one year she wrapped up a bunch of HIS old stuff and gave it to him. And EVERY year comes with a new soap-on-a-rope. We honestly have no idea where she even finds it, but it’s always scented with a lovely female old-lady aroma.

Mom says this same step-grandma is planning on getting me very expensive diamond earrings for the wedding- so I guess we’ll see lol.

I had great shower gifts, I was very lucky but at the wedding reception, we received a smoothie (how-to) book along with a check and card from one of our guests.  It was the only non-cash gift we received and it seemed so random.
