While the coworkers made it fun,  Toys R Us  during college was terrible.  You’re required to work on holidays such as Thanksgiving without any holiday compensation.  You’re required to ask every customer if they want to purchase batteries  (even if they are only buying a gift card, bottle of water, etc).   You’re required to sell credit cards with super high interest rates.  You’re required to sell extended waranties (that give you a toys r us giftcard if it breaks) on all products with moving parts.    They paid something like 8/hr.  So glad I finished school and got a real career.

My first job at a store at the mall.  I wanted to literally GOUGE my eyes out. It was horrible.

DH and I worked at a full service car wash in college. We worked with a bunch of pot heads and losers and the boss was an arrogant drunk. I remember the cops coming one day to arrest an employee for a probation violation. The manager had sex on the bosses desk on a slow day and it wasn’t uncommon for people to get stoned while working there. You also got to wear a USED t-shirt with a big rainbow on it. Yessss, The Rainbow Carwash. Fuck. My. Life.

Other than the lovely people I worked with I HATED cleaning out mini vans. I don’t know how many times I encountered stuff on the seats that I prayed was peanut butter.

But aside from being a crappy job it was nice being able to make your own hours while being in college. The pay wasn’t half bad and you did get tips. Everytime I go back to my college town praying that the place burned down…no such luck!

Bee Keeper

My worst job was working at a pet store while I was in college. I love animals so much and the freaks that bought and took home some of this animals made me so sad!!! There were also tons of crazy people that would come into the store to look at the animals and once a lady went bat sh*t crazy because she said the scarlet macaw told her to “F*** off” but it really just said “step up” which is what the bird keepers taught it so it would step up on there arms when the cages were being cleaned. Let’s just say I lasted a few months only there!!!!!

Oh man this thread is entertaining in an “I feel your pain!” way!

My worst job was working for a sheet metal fabrication company.

A friend of my mom’s owned the place and I worked there one summer and a different winter. The summer one wasn’t too bad – I was too young to work on any of the machines so I had to do chores like strain oil from the sump pond out back or tumble and de-burr parts or QC pallets of metal boxes.

But then…I got old enough to work on the machines and the boring-but-tolerable days were over. For 8 hours a day I would repeat the same motion over. And over. And over.

Position metal on machine

Place nut on metal

Press pedal with foot

Place in pile

…repeat. It was beyond mind-numbing.

When nothing needed nuts, I tumbled and de-burred parts. Basically you put metal pieces in a huge drum and pour in a bit of soap and then roll them around for a few hours. I got metal grease so far up my nails it took weeks to come out, metal splinters galore, and so many scratches on my hands.

I still can’t stand the smell of metal or grease on my skin 😀
