Awwwww that was sweet…

I thought “you better not drop it!” he proposed on a dock in the moonlight and there were big slats that it could have fell thru…after that I had to wait to see it until we got back into the car because it was 11pm and it was too dark to see it lol

My proposal was a surprise…I thought it would happen this summer, or fall.  I was very surprised (happily, of course!), but I hadn’t even know he was shopping for rings! I had shown him rings on Pinterest I liked, pointed things out in shop windows, but we had never actually shopped for one before.  The one thing I had made it very clear to him that I would MUCH RATHER have a smaller diamond of higher quaility than a 1 carat, or higher, thats cloudy, always looks dirty etc.  All that being said, he proposed a March 15th, and the first two things I thought when I saw the ring was: 1) It’s gorgeous!  2) It’s a much larger ring than I thought I would get!

Turns out his family had a diamond that’s been passed down from his grandmother, to mother and now me πŸ™‚  It’s so special and gorgous and so much more than I hoped for.  And I love the way he had it set…something that will never go out of style (pave band), but different than ones I had shown him, so he put his own stamp on it.  It’s like my second love… πŸ™‚

lauraf147 I could have written that post myself! I just remember thinking it was so beautiful and perfect, and then he started telling me about how it was from his grandma’s ring, and he had it reset – and we had just attended her funeral that Monday – he proposed on Friday. It was perfect and so meaningful πŸ™‚

Seriously, I think I was thinking “No f’n way! Is it real?” because my Darling Husband had placed my ring inside a Kinder Egg πŸ™‚

WELL Fi propsed with a fake ring. It was actually a toe ring that he put into a ring box with like a tiny tiny chip of a stone. He proposed in front of all my friends and family. So I’m sitting there, all excited, opne the box and I said “what??” and everyone laughed, then he gave me the real ring.

hoogirl05 It is so sweet and meaningful.  Sorry about your FIs grandmother passing away though…that makes it a lot tougher.  My gpa recently passed away and not a day goes by yet where I don’t think about him and miss him.  THankfully, my FIs grandma is still alive and well at 98!!!  It just makes me feel slightly bad about her, and his mother, not having their original ring, BUT I guess I will have to do the same thing someday, if I have a son πŸ™‚

I was totally surprised but once I was able to compose myself I thought “yay! he picked my favorite one!” (I had given out a couple of choices)

Wow this is definately not .5 carat. (He got me a full carat, which ended up being perfect once I got used to it.) And then I tried to figure out if he missed any details and was pleasantly surprised by how perfect it was. Though I was a little upset it was too big (apparently the jeweler didn’t believe that he knew my ring size). I was surprised that he proposed when he did because I kept thinking he was going to make me wait a few months because he didn’t want to be engaged long distance and Iwas about to go to a different state for 3 months.

My first thought was “OMG, its just like what I described I liked ONCE, he listens?!?!” Then “Holy crap, that’s bigger than I thought I’d get” Then he told me it was passed down, just like PP.. It was his grandmothers, then his mothers and his mother wanted to watch me enjoy it… I just love his family! AND my ring!! πŸ™‚

My next thought after all the excitment and shock of the proposal was: “Did you REALLY just take me across a lake on a waverunner with that ring in your pocket” *shakes head* boys!

@SpartyOn:  I know, I was in shock, even though we had been dating for something like 7 years (some college and post college, all our friends laughed when I said I was surprised, but I was!) and then when he hugged me after he put it on my hand and started telling me it was Nanny’s, that was when the floodgates opened up. Talk about an emotional week! That was May 2011 and it still feels like yesterday πŸ™‚

I made a Pinterest board of about 30 different vintage rings I found online that I loved. I let him pick one from there, or at least get the idea from there and pick one on his own. He did pick one from my board, but of course I had no idea which one he picked, nor what it would look like in person. When he opened the box I just remember how delicate it looked. It has a lot of filigree work on the edges and delicate engraving on the sides. The stone was sparkling like crazy in the sun. I wanted to have it on my finger so badly and when he slipped it on it just looked perfect on my finger. I wanted something dainty, delicate, and ethereal and that’s just what I got!

Oh and here’s my ring! It’s an old mine cut, but other than that (knowing its pretty old and was hand cut) they don’t know much about it – family mystery, which is kind of cool πŸ™‚
