@ButterKnife143:  No it’s not odd at all if that’s what you want.

I chose my own ring so I didn’t have to ask for anything specific.

I gave him specifics, but then we ended up picking the ring together, so it didn’t matter. I wanted a round cut solitaire with a white gold band. That was it. Haha, pretty easy.

Ha, I sent him pictures of this gorgeous blue cushion cut sapphire in a halo setting that I drooled over.  He bought me a radiant diamond with a braided shank setting.  So different, but I do absolutely love what he chose for me.

as jokingly asked for two carat pink diamond shaped like Hello Kitty. (LOL) Then when we went shopping I knew I wanted center with side diamonds and princess cut with a platinum band. Didn’t end up with two carats but that was fine.

I don’t think that’s odd at all! I think it’s great to let him know if you have specific tastes–that way he won’t be overwhelmed by choice and you’ll get something you love. I never specifically said, “I want _____,” but every time we went by a jewelry store he would ask me to point out which rings were my favorite and I always picked out the emerald cuts. He did know that quality was more important than size for me so when he was buying from Blue Nile he set the quality parameters high–and then maxed out the size in his budget πŸ™‚

I actually told him that a twist tie or ring pop would suffice…Hey, I waited 5 years..don’t judge πŸ˜‰

After he shot that idea down, I told him I wanted a ruby and that completely pulled the rug out from under him.  He was like “yeah, uh, you’re gonna need to pick that out.”

I told him I wanted a round halo, and no prongs above the halo. Then I sent pictures to his friend that’s a diamond jeweler lol. I got more than I had anticipated!

To not feel like he had to wait until he had a ring to propose. I was ready to get this show on the road.

Also, no solitaire, no solitaire, FOR GOODNESS SAKE, NO SOLITAIRE. That was my biggest request. And no yellow gold.

I requested:

Solitaire, round, no yellow gold, and a thin band.

I also showed him photos of rings that I loved online to give him an idea.

I don’t think it’s weird that you requested a CZ.

We chose ours together but we kind of both had ideas of what we wanted in a ring. Diamond (him I didn’t complain cos it is tradition in my fam too and who’s to argue), centre stone/solitaire look (both) and I wanted a “twist” band – I didn’t get that thou cos when I tried it I didn’t like it on my hand (too blingy). Ultimately Fiance found and chose my ring so I’d like to think even if we didn’t shop together this would be my ring anyway πŸ™‚

It is something you have to be comfortable wearing so setting guidelines is ok πŸ™‚

ETA: I also requested white gold cos yellow looks odd on my colouring πŸ™‚

He asked me to send a few pics of what I like.  I sent him 3-stone e-rings.

We exchanged pics of different rings for a couple of months. That gave him a great detailed idea of what I like and what I hate. Even before we started seriously looking for rings, we were talking about a friend’s engagement or something like that and I jokingly said “JUST so you know, if you ever decide to marry me, I want a princess cut, very square halo, very sparkly engagement ring”. Later on I kept sending him pics just like I mentioned above and he narrowed it down to two rings, after which he asked me to go alone and try them on with the jewlerer.  I told them I liked both but he ended up picking the one I absolutely adored. He got me a very square double-halo,  princess cut diamond, double band, all diamonds around. I couldn’t be happier.

The only thing I told him was that I liked princess or radiant cut and NO yellow gold.  He went with radiant and I am SO glad he did!

We are upgrading my setting (not the diamond) and picked that out together:

I requested that my ring be custom made by a certain person. I know that sounds snobby, but the person who made my ring is a friend of mine and a wonderful goldsmith that works for a very respected shop here in town. He had a collection of sapphires that I used to like to bring out and look at, so I knew my ring had to have sapphires. I also requested yellow gold. I’d wear a hole in that rhodium coating so fast my finger would be on fire if I’d gotten white.
