I’m due in October and as I’m in New Zealand I’m entitled to a full twelve months at work (fourteen weeks of it paid at a low-ish rate byt the Government).
The plan is for me to finish work at the end of August or early September at which point I’ll take my outstanding vacation days (I think I’ll have about four weeks by then) and I’ll officially go on maternity leave at the start of October.
Ideally I’d like to stay home with baby beyond twelve months and fingers crossed we should be financially set for me to do this but if I need to go back I wouldn’t work for more than twenty hours per week.

When we eventually have a kid (few years down the road), I’ll be staying home. Neither of us want to put our child in daycare so being able to live off of one salary is a prerequisite to having a baby for us. Our plan if for me to be a Stay-At-Home Mom until he/she is in school and then I’ll probably rejoin the work force (if we could use the extra money). Hopefully by then our software company is up and running so both DH and I will be able to do that full time. If that’s the case, I’ll be able to handle all of my duties from home on nights and weekends so I’d never have to actually leave my kid.

I will be taking my 1 year mat leave, and then returning to work part-time (20-25 hours per week). We will put our LO is daycare or a day home when I return to work.

Originally my SO and I weren’t planning on having kids until 2+ years down the road and by that time I was hoping to build enough consulting clientale for marketing where I could work from home while raising our kids. Since we unexpectantly are pregnant now, we talked about it and fortunately my SO makes enough so that I can stay home with our kids though once they start school I plan to rebuild my clientale and work from home.

My DH and I both love our jobs! So we will keep working 🙂
