We are trying to find a cute name for our little girl to call my mom- her grandmother. What names out there do you or are you planning on using? My sister and I called our maternal grandmother- gramma, and our paternal grandmother- grandma. Kind of boring! I have heard of nana, grums, g-ma, mema but my mom does not like any of those. Just wanted to hear other names out there!

Baby will call my mum Nana and DH’s mum grandma.

The names we came up with for my mom and dad, when my nephew was born, are Lolly and Pop! I think my in-laws have names already too, because my husband has a nephew (FIL is Pop Pop and Mother-In-Law is ??)
In the family we also have three Grannys (plain old Granny and Granny <first name/last name>), a Nanny, and a Marmee. 🙂

We’re not even close to TTC and my Mum is already thinking about what she’d like to be called by her grand-kids.
I call my Dad’s parents, Baba and Gigi (Ukrainian) and my Mom’s Gram and Grampa. My Mom’s thinking either Gran and Grampa or Nana and Papa. …but I’ll probably try and get them to call my parents Baba and Gigi. Sort of an inside joke, as my Mom tried to do that with her mom and Gram hated it as she thinks it makes her sound old and now ditto with my Mom.

My mom was dei Oma which turned into Meoma and my dad is Papa. We called my dads parents grams and pop and my moms parents were Oma and Papa. My moms family still spoke alot of german several generations in and that is where that came from.

No clue, but my mom just swears that they will NEVER call her Memaw or, even worse, Mimi. I can’t imagine either Future Mother-In-Law or my mom being anything other than Grandma. We’ll find out in a few years, I guess.

My in-laws are Grampy and Grammy; my parents are Grandma and Pop Pop.

This is a funny question. If your child is the first grandchild they may dictate what they call their grandparents, regardless if the grandparents have chosen names for themeselves are not.
My bonus son calls both of his bio-grandma’s “Ama” this was all he could say when he was a baby and now at 4 years old, he’s not changing what he calls them.
My niece was taught to call my grandparents Grandma and Grandpa, but she calls them Meme and Papa and all of their grandchildren have now followed suit.

I think it should be up to the grandparents what THEY would like to be called.
That said, from what I know, both my mom and my Mother-In-Law will be grandma.

Future Mother-In-Law will be grandmere, Future Father-In-Law will be grandpere and for my parents my mom will be Baba (Bahbah) and my dad will be Deda (Dehdah). All the other grandkids already call the Future In-Laws by those names so I doubt that will change! As for my parents, it’s just what we call them in Serbian and there isn’t really much choice!

My DS used to call my parents “Grammy” and “Poppy”because those are the names my parents chose for themselves. DS has now shortened that to “Gram” and “Pop” because he is “too old” to say Grammy and Poppy. Teenagers! LOL
My nephew, who is 21 months, calls my parents “Nana” and “Pop Pop” because that’s what he has named them.

Because of Divorce and re-marriage my daughter has 3 sets of grandparents:
Grandma and Grandpa (my parents)
Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop (step-dad’s parents)
Nana and Papa (bio-dad’s parents)

Mimi (grandmother), Papa (grandfather).

@mwitter80: I love Ama! That is very similar to my mom’s last name! I will mention it to her! Last night she mentioned she liked G-ma or G-mom. So whatever she likes! 🙂
Thank you bees for the input!

Not sure what they would call Future Mother-In-Law, but our children will call my mom Mar-Mom. It’s what I used to call her when I was a baby. I used to hear people call her Mary so it’s what I came up with, I guess. Haha.
