I got some gifts from a store that I never shop at. I didn’t like the items and took them back and was given merchandise credit at the store in the amount of $139.06 – I never found anything else I wanted and haven’t been back to try to find something else.
Darling Husband was mentioning it to one of his co-workers and they shop there and wanted to know how much I’d sell the card for.
Part of me wanted to just give it to them (because it’s been just sitting in my wallet for a few months and the chances are super slim I’d actually buy something from there), but then the other part of me figured – well, it’s as good as ‘cash’ – why not.
So – I figured asking $100 for it would be a good deal for both of us.
What do you think – fair deal? or did I just lose about $40 of potential merchandise.

Well technically you lost $40 worth of merchandise, but it won’t matter if you don’t like any of it :). I would sell it for the $100 so you guys both get a deal :).

Yea you technically lost money… but it’s money you’re not going to use. So the $100 is way better. I probably wouldn’t sell my credit though, I would just buy something stupid in the store for kicks 🙂

Urgh we’re in the same situation. There are sites online that will give you about 90 cents on the dollar for gift cards so you can get a better deal. We haven’t done it yet because I just hate losing the money.
Where is the gift card to?
By The Way, if anyone want’s a $100 gift card to Flemmings, make me an offer. hahaha (his mom got us a flemmings gift card for xmas even though the closest one is 20 miles away and we don’t eat red meat! sigh).

Don’t look at it as losing $40, look at it as gaining $100. It’s been burning a hole in your wallet for months and you’re clearly not going to use it. Sell it for $100 and buy something you really want.

I agree – even if you could find something to spend $140 on, it doesn’t sound like it would be something you’d like or use often. You could go back to the store and see if anything jumps out at you, otherwise I’d just sell the card. No need to give it away, because it’s a lot of money, but selling it for $100 is a good deal for both of you.
