So I went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago to change my birth control. My old one had good aspects but some side effects just were not going to work for me anymore or I wouldn’t have changed so close to the wedding. I do mail orders with my prescriptions since we aren’t stable in location yet and it came today. My engagement pictures are on Sunday. I’m worried that the new pills could have immediate side effects (headaches, nausea, bloating, breakouts). I’m fine with the amount of time I’d have to change pills again before the wedding if necessary. But do I go ahead and take my pill tonight like I would normally do or wait until Sunday night when the pictures are over just to be on the safe side with side effects? I just don’t want bloated, broken out pictures. I may still have my period on Sunday if I don’t take i but it hopefully wouldn’t be too bad which is what I was worried about before. Any advice?

Are you starting a new pack because you’re at the end of a cycle? I would stay on my old BC unless I’m at the end of a cycle. If it’s time to start a new pack I’d just start the new ones. It’s unlikely that you’ll have such terrible side effects it will impact your pictures.

I ended my old pack/pills about a week ago. I think I normally would have started taking those again around Tuesday but I didn’t have any pills. I just didn’t want to risk awful side effects and I didn’t know if it was common to experience such sudden side effects or not. I just didn’t want it to make me feel so bad (the nausea or headaches or something) that I had to cancel because it’s fairly hard for me to find someone to take my shift sometimes so it’d be hard to reschedule.

If you are really worried about it, then just wait and start your new pills after photos. In the meantime, use extra protection just in case. It is extremely unlikely that your body would react that fast with horrible side effects to the new pill, but you never know. I think you will feel better if you just wait and don’t have to worry about the photos anymore 🙂
