My sister and I were watching David Tutera’s My Fair Wedding last night, and it got us talking. We had an interesting conversation from it, and I thought I would pose the question here too, just to see the answers. Whole My Fair Wedding may do things differently, this is just for this scenario.
Let’s say you get a call from My Fair Wedding, three weeks before your planned nupituals. You and your soon to be husband have been chosen to be on the show. If you accept, David Tutera will be at your house tomorrow, and will start planning your dream wedding. You tell him your idea, and he will make your dream come true. The wedding will be completely paid for by My Fair Wedding, including all of the lost funds from your deposits and things already paid for.
The catch is, everything you’ve done up to that point will be thrown away for being ‘tacky’ or ‘cheap’ or not fitting the idea of the wedding, including but not limited to your dress, venue, hair/makeup, bridesmaid dresses, flowers, center peices, menu, decorations, all DIYs, your entertainment, everything. You will lose all creative control with your wedding, and will basically show up, and get married, with whatever David has chosen for you.
Would you accept? You could have a completely free wedding, but you would have no say in anything at all.
FWIW, my sister said she wouldn’t accept it, since her wedding is going to be a very DIY/rustic one, and she said she likes the image and feel she’s come up with and wouldn’t want someone else coming in and throwing away everything she’s done. I said that in the long run, creative control doens’t matter as much to me as getting married to my man, and as long as the day ends with that, I’d be ok with it.
