So, I am obsessing about the chairs that come with my venue. I think they are so hideous, but everyone else says no one will notice except me.
I found a tutorial on how to DIY chair covers, so if I did that it would cost about 60 cents per chair or I could rent white wooden chairs for $1.95 each. We are inviting 150, but will probably end up with 125-130, so that would be an extra $78 for the covers and an extra $253 for the chairs.
I usually am not so picky about these kinds of things and would be perfectly happy with wooden chairs but I am not sure if it is worth the extra expense or hassle of another DIY or coordinating with another vendor depending on which I decide.
Our venue is outside, though is under a covered patio (hard to explain). We are doing what I like to call ‘a rustic elegance’ wedding with mason jars, chalkboards and wildflowers.
So, what would YOU do?

I say save your time and money and keep them as is. Nobody will notice them, especially when everyone is sitting in them.

i feel your pain. never had i given a thought to chairs until i walked into FI’s choice of church with my “brides eyes” on and saw a sea of blue plastic chairs. i had my first official meltdown. long story short: different church.

I would notice those chairs. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing, but based on how you describe your wedding as “rustic elegance,” I would probably just think they clash. There is nothing elegant about them; they are purely functional. So for me it would come down to time, skills, and budget. I am not a very talented DIYer depending on what it is, so I do not think I would bother attempting to make my own covers. But if you can’t afford the wooden chairs, don’t stress your budget with it. If you have the time and skills, I think chair covers would be the way to go, but I think if you have the budget, the wooden chairs are the best option because you won’t have to worry about them then.

Does your budget have the extra room for either the covers or new chairs?
If it does, then choose whichever option will make you happiest. If it doesn’t, then don’t fret. I honestly don’t think I’d notice the chairs, especially with your other decor. 🙂

Rent sashes to go along the bottom, it will dress them up a bit and be muuuuch cheaper than renting new chairs and much easier than having to diy covers (yikes)!

from the sound of your theme, i think plain wooden chairs (not painted white), would be best. i would not take on that diy project!
