I would go with someone else. Better to pay a lil extra and know you’re going to have what you paid for in the end and not have someone make excuses at the last minute or not show up.

I would go with the slightly extra cost and get someone else. Tell your DJ friend that you decided you weren’t comfortable making him “work” at your wedding and wanted him to actually enjoy it as a guest instead so you guys could mingle with him more.

@mkim:  I would hire someone.  I wouldn’t want to cause any friction between a friend and us and seems like it’s causing some stress on your part.  Hire someone who has a good rep and signs a contract.  Tell your friend that you want him to be part of the party and not have to worry about ‘working’ at the party.  Good luck!

@LiliKitty:  I totally agree with this.  If you don’t want him to get mad (because he probably will), just avoid saying it’s because he’s a flake and say you’d prefer him to enjoy things as a guest and not have to “work”.
