most of the “routine pregancy” applies to the global fee for just the prenatal visits, after the first visit– any test/bloodwork/ultrasounds are billed at the time of serivce (the global or “routine pregnanacy” fee is not usually billed until you actually deliver) so it is possible the next office visit will be included in the global fee, any thing else they do will be billed separate (I am running into this too- my monthly prenatal visits are not billed until I deliver in March, but I still get bills for the labwork and ultrasounds as we go). It is very confusing— one thing to look into, some insurance plans used to have a clause that if you met your deductible in the last 3 months, that portion went to the deductible the next year (been a while since I have seen that stipulation, but something to check). Otherwise I would ask about a cash paying price- see if they can give you a discount.

Thought I’d come back and update in case anyone is curious- we ended up not going in until January- and everything is good with baby!
I decided to cancel the December appointment because I knew that if there was bad news, I know there wasn’t anything they could do to fix it, and I knew that I wouldnt have wanted to find that out just before Christmas either. I felt like it was better for me to assume that everything was going fine and think positively. Oddly, when I cancelled the first appointment they also cancelled my original January appointment as well for some reason, but I was able to call and get it rescheduled for the same timeslot. I also checked with my NP directly to make sure she was ok with it and she said it wasn’t a problem at all.
When we went in, we were expecting to measure baby around 10w5d, which was going off the first ultrasound. According to LMP I would have been 12w3d. Well baby surprised us all by measuring 11w6d, a lot closer to the original estimation and almost dead on to my CD 17 ovulation estimate. Here’s baby!
So we’re all good, baby could have been slow to start off but then easily caught up, or something was off on the initial measurements- they measure crown-rump so if baby was curled up real tight or at a weird angle it could have been off.
Anyway thanks again for all your input and advice- we really appreciated it!
