What would you feed your guests if you had a very low budget?

My guest list is only 65 people, and I work part time at a really popular chain Steak House I have been working there for three years while finishing my degree.  LOL they don’t normally cater but they will do it for their employes and for charity events.  (well at least ours does) So they are catering my food at a huge dicount as a wedding gift.  Everyone in both families LOVE their food and none of them have diatary retrictions, or are vegan, plus I was able to get a lot of variety…chicken, seafood, and beef, four different veggies, two salads, rolls and family is helping provide a dessert bar. I am doing cup cakes and two aunts are making some cookies and such.  We have a kids table that includes fruit, veggie and meat trays.  Total cost $400.00 but like I said I got a nice discount!!!  I hadn’t planned on a reception, originally it was going to be a small family close friends ceremony and a very very small dinner out somewhere after.  Fiance family encouraged me to do reception….and encouraged me, so I had to figure out a way to do it at a low low budget 🙂

I would have a 2pm wedding and serve cake and champagn punch.  Lots of people do this and it’s very economical. 

If it’s a 2pm wedding / 3pm reception that ends at 5 no one will expect either lunch or dinner and they won’t drink as much.

Backyard BBQ or Pasta are usually inexpensive options. Another thought which I once upon a time saw on another thread and planned on doing before my Father-In-Law got tons of food donated was to have someplace like Boston Market cater in. They’re very inepensive and have great food. Sometimes a couple of smaller choices can save money over lots of choices–particularly if you’re not sure what everyone will eat.

My BFF catered her own wedding and she had 80 guest. She ordered huge party platers of Chicken, and Shirmp, Crab legs and Lobster from a local deli. As well as deli lunch meat and rolls. Huge Veggie and carvered Fruit trays and well as a Huge 4 teired wedding cake. The food was mind blowing. She catered her wedding for 300.00. The Wedding Cake was about 250.
