Mine is already bought (cushion solitaire in white gold) but I would not want:
yellow gold, marquis, pear, bezel set, channel set, anything under 2 cts or over 2.5 cts, too many stones that detract from the center stone, set too low, band under 2 mm or over 4 mm, quad or cluster, 80s settings.

@GoldieGlitters: I don’t like yellow gold because everything else I own (watch, Alex and Ani bracelets, earrings, rings are all silver/white gold tones and to have my ering be the only piece of jewelry I own be yellow gold just wouldn’t feel right. I am a white gold type of girl.

I don’t like cluster rings, really wide bands, channel set, heart shaped stone, simulated stones or yellow gold.

A big NO to:
CZ(I’ve never seen moissanite so I can’t say that)
colored stones unless it was a canary/yellow diamond
cluster ring
thick band (my fingers are short and tiny)
plain solitaire ring
marquise/heart/round shaped center stone
3-stone rings

No yellow gold, and I don’t want a thin band with a large(r) gemstone. I just don’t really like either. And no princess cut stones.
Other than that, I’m not very picky.

I personally would not want/don’t like man made stones like moissanite, CZ or any other “created” /simulated gemstone. I definitely dislike designer “replica” settings too . Simulated stones/settings are too “poser”(for lack of a better word) for my tastes although I understand budgetary limitations & why others go there. To each her own, just not for me..
Am not a fan of halos, cluster rings, quad, “illusion settings” . I like silver but would only want gold or platinum for an engagement ring due to strength.
Don’t care for emerald or marquise cut diamonds, I like round brilliant cut diamond solitaires and think pear shaped are also exquisite. I think a genuine gemstone such as an alexandrite or a sapphire makes a lovely engagement ring.
In any event, the commitment is the most important thing. The ring is just icing on the cake but I admit, I definitely like icing!
but it has to be genuine, no fat free or diet icing! LOL
Interesting subject!

I was so picky that I had to choose my own ring, but my absolute least favorite rings would be…
heart shaped stone, asymmetrical ring that could not fit a straight wedding band, bulky boxy ring like a really thick halo, cluster and quad (illusion setting rings), too thin band that I would worry would break, colored gemstone for center stone.
I am surprised by how many people don’t want yellow gold. I prefer white, but I love yellow too.

I deid not want white gold or a clear/white centre stone. Everything else I would have loved (I possibly even maybe a little bit would have been ok with a clear centre stone if it had coloured gemstones on the ring somewhere as well)

Yellow gold, heart, pear or marquis diamonds, 3 stone design. All of them are just not my taste.. and no CZ or moissanite or any other man made stone.

For myself, I would prefer not to have:
- CZ, only because it isn’t a “lifetime” stone
- No diamonds! NO. DIAMONDS. I made myself very very clear with my SO that they’re a no-go.
- Nothing above $2000- I would just feel really nervous about wearing anything that expensive on a daily basis.
- Not a fan of round cuts, I like chunky facets like cushions and ovals.
- No super high solitaire settings, I’m a low-set halo girl.
- No bypass, quads or three stone settings.
- No yellow gold
- No sets with a matching “notched” wedding band- I really wanted a straight band I could wear alone.
SO’s preferences were:
- No yellow gold
- No pink! No pink stones or rose gold 🙁
- Nothing but a clear stone (moissanite)
- No high settings
- No quad sets
