So I have a large canvas, and I dont know what to put on it. I originally was going to paint a monogram on it, but I dont think I could free hand it and have it turn out how I like, so now im looking for other ideas. Im trying to hang up some new springier decor, and enjoy DIY, so im going to try painting it. (I have done a lot of wood signs, not so much on canvas. Lol) If you had a blank canvas, what would you paint?

ChellFish22: maybe some water color? pick some really bright happy colors and paint whatever comes to mind. I’m not an artist at all, so I would probably just go buy an already painted canvas and frame it haha.

ChellFish22: i’d probably do some sort of colour block design with whatever colours i feel would compliment the room. i’m not much of an artist so this would be so easy to do. there’s no right or wrong with this type of design. translation = safe.

This is is the first thing that came to mind! Doilies on canvas! They look like flowers, especially if you use the right colors. You can even add stems if you’re feeling brave! Just google “Spray paint doilies on canvas” for examples & tutorials!

okqueenbee: Those look amazing, and very Spring-like 🙂 I was thinking hand prints……I would include my pups’ paw prints 🙂
A splatter design would also be fairly easy to accomplish!! Paint the background and then take complimentary colors and spatter/splatter the paint. The other idea is using a paste-paper technique with various tools to make imprints in the paint.

ponyrider: I want to do that!! We talked about it not that long ago. The paw prints idea I mean. Lol. Except our cat has long hair..and her prints would just look like little cotton ball marks lol.
I love the doilies idea!! I think I need some more canvases. Maybe do like 4 and make the a big square?
I actually started sewing burlap onto one on them last night. Like rows of ruffles on it for some texture. I may actually do two like that and put them in the living room and then do the 4 doilie canvases to hang in the hall. Love it. Lol. We havent had anythingup on the walls since I took down out Christmas decor, and I want to decorate!!!

ChellFish22: I didn’t use paint but I did this project with two blank canvases (used the lines coming out from the center then mirrored the image for the other canvas) and it came out awesome! I used electrical tape & it took about 30 minutes- 1 hour- the more modern style fit our master bedroom & the bright metal color fit in well with the giant steel plated mirror we have over the bed..
