I think it would depend on how much you could afford and how good of a job she did. Maybe $50-$100?

Fiance and I got ours for free too. We are absolutely pleased with her work and are thinking of getting her and her husband a gift card for around $150 to a fancy restaurant. But like the PP said, it depends on how much you can afford and how good of a job she does.

I’m so glad you asked this cuz I was thinking the same thing the other day!  I was planning on getting my free DOC a gift card for somewhere or maybe like $50.  We cannot afford much, but she is putting alot of time and effort into helping us, I just want to make sure she knows we appreciate it.  Plus we are giving her ALL of our vendor contacts, whatever pictures she wants, and anything else she wants to take from our wedding for her portfolio.  The only difference is that she is a friend of mine, so I will be helping her as much as possible for her wedding.  I’m just not becoming a DOC.  🙂

I am just starting my own DOC business and offering free DOC services so I just wanted to give my two cents. While it is definately not necessary to tip, if you do, you might want to think about giving cash-as I know I would prefer cash because I could definately use it towards business expenses as it is all so expensive 🙂

@College:  Thats a great tip.  I really didn’t think about it that way.  Good luck with your business 🙂

Maybe $100-200?

I am in the same boat.  An old friend/neighbor is trying to get her wedding planner business started so she and her partner are doing it for free.  I figured we’d give them $150.  (Was thinking of making it an even $200, but I’ll wait to write the check to see how spectacular a job they do.)

It’ll work out well because my friend can oversee the ceremony, since she was actually invited anyway, and her partner can oversee the reception hall.  We’re also giving them both regular meals and an actual table seat (with the rest of my friend’s family)–not vendor meals.
