lightchaser:  I didn’t get it until you actually mentioned Monty Python. If I got that I would probably just chuckle and move on.

lightchaser:  I am not familiar with the original joke, but I think what you’ve written is very cute and funny. If we received an invitation like that I would be excited to go. Plus your wedding sounds awesome anyways. If you are in the Seattle area I want an invite 😉

I didn’t get that it was a Monty Python thing, but that’s because I was fell asleep when my SO made me watch it…

So from the perspective of someone reading it who doesn’t get the Monty Python reference, I would just think it’s quirky and weird, but in a good way. Your friends and family should know you by now, so if you’re the type of person who would do this sort of thing, then they’ll just laugh it off. Anyone who judges you for it is ridiculous, I wouldn’t be concerned about them at all. Do what you like!

Also, personally, this invitation would make me want to go to your wedding more. It shows your personality, and it shows that the event won’t be stuffy and boring.

lightchaser:  This is epic for a save the date, but I use the invitation to judge how formal the wedding is so unless you were having a really casual wedding I’d get the wrong idea. Unless you letterpress it which would actually be pretty cool.

I think it’s funny. I can see people of “a certain age” being confused- but it’s fine. I’m sure your family and friends know you and your sense of humor.

So, I love that you want to do something different, but I think it’s too long. The set-up to a joke shouldn’t be longer than the punchline, and here, it’s twice as long. On top of that, I think it will be confusing for people who are reading it trying to find the relevant information. Plus, it gives off a vibe of, “Our wedding shouldn’t be your priority,” which is sort of a weird message to send.

I think a PP had a good idea of including it on the back or an insert of a simpler invite. Or better yet, why not make that the introduction on your wedding website? Length is a lot less of a concern there.

Not everyone shares the same sense of humor but it’s nice to see something fun and different if you ask me!  So many people get wrapped up in the formality of a wedding they forget about the couple behind it.  Express yourselves a bit and honestly, I bet the people coming will be excited.  This invite says good times are ahead instead of the same, been there done that, wedding we’ve all been to a million times.

I would get that you were trying to be funny, but I wouldn’t think you were succeeding. It would make me cringe, tbh.

It made me giggle! More importantly, if it’s what you and your Fiancé get joy out of — do it!!

lightchaser:  i thought this was a Dr. Seuss theme invite, I didn’t think it was funny, I think its kinda silly. But Its YOUR invitation, and you are sending this to people that know YOU and your Fiance personally, so who are we to judge?
