annabananabee :  This too. I guess its either invite everyone or no one. I don’t understand that logic but not my day.

We have a very similar situation! My fiancé and I have very big families and if we invite extended family that means that every uncle/aunt/cousin would have to be invited. If one uncle invited but not the other there would be definitely some hurt feelings. But when we say it’s just immediate family then everyone was ok

So we are doing Destination Wedding with only parents, siblings and their families, and just a few very close friends. Our total count including two of us is 20 people. We are doing nice ceremony and nice steak dinner! And after we return we will do backyard BBQ (or something else) to celebrate with everyone else

So I am totally supporting your idea:)

We are trying to be on a budget too, however I am really surprised that you are only able to get it for $3500. Would love to see your breakout! For us just dinner is going to be almost $3000 (with drinks, taxes and tips). And with photographer, ceremony, cocktail reception, decor and everything else we are trying to get under $8k

If hotels supplies the decor then it’s a huge help! My three biggest expenses are dinner, ceremony/cocktail receptions set up and photographer. Ceremony through hotel was so expensive that we are basically renting everything ourselves and setting up gazebo and chairs on the private beach from where we are renting condos. I’ll send you more details in PM:)

I think it’s fine to do the destination wedding and then have a party at home. I wouldn’t call it a reception. It’s just a party to celebrate that you are now husband and wife. I think that sounds very reasonable.
