Usually the simple fix is change your prenatals. They do have lower iron ones. It is the iron that binds you so lowering the amount should do the trick.

Lmao, this is hysterical – but not funny because I know how painful this can be.  It’s been one of my biggest issues during pregnancy.  Ouch.

@panterapeach:  I’ve used Miralax and love it.  It’s even safe for kids (my neice used to take it).  You mix some in with juice and you can’t taste it at all.  It’s not immediae relief, but if you take it every day or every other day, it will make and keep you more regular.  I use it now when things get really bad or if I notice I haven’t been going.  I’ll take it for a day or two and it will usually get things moving.

Hahaha….I’m not pregnant, but I’ve been on some serious pain killers recently and have had the same problem… I told my Darling Husband I was using labor techniques- pushing to 10, etc… Haha… It’s been really awful, so this post makes me ok about waiting to have kids!

I’m not pregnant, but i’ve been constipated since I was born practically haha. I had to go to the hospital one time because my stomach hurt so bad I thought I was going to die, they took an x-ray, and I had poop up to my 3rd rib..literally. I probably wont poop the whole pregnancy

My mom still giggles when she tells me i’m full of shit. ๐Ÿ™

@Eva Peron:  omg! my mother used “smooth move” tea once and she vowed never to again. She was on the toilet for HOURS. I think if someone drank that while pregnant they would just DIE!!

@jholler25:  glad something worked! I am not pregnant but I do worry because I am a very regular bathroom goer – my “body schedule” has been the same since I was literally a baby and I dread anything messing it up!

I’ve been fortunate not to have issues with this (at least so far)… usually dried prunes, other fruits/veggies, and decaf coffee do the job for me.

Ground flaxseed works really well, but I don’t know if it’s okay during pregnancy.

I’m going to bump this because I’m coming into this problem at 20 weeks! I’ll be trying to up the water intake and this morning had flaxseed and berries in my oatmeal, with an apple after. In my reading I’ve seen that red meat is not so good, as well as too much dairy and salt, but fruit and veg and water are good…I feel like I’m already doing this! I think I’ll try to do more yoga as well, it seems like it would be helpful.

I use Miralax or Magnesium Citrate daily.

Just a small amount of mineral oil works for me and is safe. I just put about 1/4 teaspoon on a spoon and swallow. Follow it with water. It may take a couple days to work through but it really works for me.

The last 3 weeks of my first pregnancy- I was GYNORMOUS (9 pound 11 oz boy) and THE problem became REALLY uncomfortable……so——- I started to live on whole wheat donuts, grapes, and lemon curd. I knew that this horrible diet couldn’t hurt the baby, and I HAD to get him to stop hurting me.

OMG did that work great! Also lots and lots and lots and lots of water, and a cup of good hot half caff coffee first thing in the morning. But the most important food groups are whole wheat donuts ( really healthy ones actually, lowish sugar and no trans fats), bunches and bunches of grapes, and a big dollop of lemon curd.

Best of luck with ALL your endeavors!

Bless this post! Im only 5 1/2 weeks and I’ve been dying. I was going to hold off on taking anything until after my 7 week appt, but I think I’ll try a few of your suggestions. Pregnancy is hard enough without dealing with hard poops!

Well, I haven’t been eating super well because we need to go get groceries and we are out of fruit and veg whoops. All we have that might help is flaxseed and dried figs…so I’ll eat a bunch of gfigs at work today and try to make time to do a special grocery store shop just for me and my problems! ๐Ÿ™ I’m at 23 weeks and I don’t want this to get worse…but I figure it will! In France there is a bottled water with magnesium and soemthing added called Hepra or hepar..something like that. It’s kind of designed to help with this problem, and supposedly safe from pregnancy so I ‘ll buy some. I’ve been drinking fennel tea, and I admit I’ve stopped my prenatal vitamin…I think it is part of the problem. I think when I take it, I’ll only do half a pill once a week or something…I don’t trust those things anymore! I was reading up on Prune juice and it said in addition to the fiber, it has stool softening qualities…and wouldn’t we all like that. The article recommended a glass in evening and morning, not too much more or you could get results you don’t want!
