What's a good excuse?

antibiotics, cutting calories, something like that.  Or just hold onto a can of beer and let your husband empty it when no one’s paying attention/swap with his empty. I never had this issue because I never liked drinking in the first place, but surely one of those options will work.

Empty a beer can and refill with water. Got that one from my Mother-In-Law.  If you usually do mixed drinks, soda water with a slice of lime in it doesn’t look any different than a vodka soda with lime.

You could say you’re on antibiotics for a UTI (which PS, I’ve always gotten terrible nausea when I have a UTI so that could cover up any morning sickness).

Say you’re getting over a stomach bug and don’t want to tempt fate.

If you ‘drink’ the first night, you can use the terrible ‘hangover’ as an excuse to not ‘drink’ the second night.

I would make my own alcohol free drink (like a mixer but no booze) and carry that around. I don’t think anyone will buy any other excuse.

I agree that you’ve gotta fake drink.  It’s the only way.  I did it and nobody had a clue.  People notice if you don’t take a drink, but nobody pays much attention to how many sips you take, etc.

def have to fake drink lol my cousin’s wife did this when she was pregnant.. we were dancing and she was chugging a beer (dark bottle)… but nobody ever realized there was nothing in the bottle! We were all too drunk to notice anything.

flagyl… anyone who has ever taken it and drank has had HORRIBLE side effects. They will believe you can’t drink if you say you are taking flagyl. Also, having your husband drink from yours when know one is looking also works!

My husband did me solids by getting my drinks for me (bloody marys or mixed drinks) and just never putting anything in them. I also used the excuse of medication for other events too (although, I do have an auto-immune disease and when I get a flare up, I am on steriods so people understand not being able to drink on that lol)

I totally advocate for the fake UTI story. I get them all the time. The antibiotics I take for those make me nauseated, and you really can’t drink – not only does it affect the antibiotic functioning, but for me at least alcohol makes the UTI much, much worse.

Plus, in my experience…no one ever questioned a UTI. Generally they don’t wanna know details lol!

We tried this and me being designated driver etc but it was over Christmas and we are part of a very social group. It became pretty obvious early on that I kept making excuses, so we ended up telling our close friends but didn’t announce anything officially until nifty test we went for privately was back at 13 weeks. It was just easier this way.

Maybe you could say you are doing some sort of cleanse/clean eating? Of course that means you’d also have to watch what you eat…

anonybee2016 :  congrats!

I agree with all the PP’s – either fake a UTI or fake drink.

I will often drink vodka sodas so those are really easy to pretend. I’m also a beer drinker – I would likely bring an empty with me and just fill it with water over and over again.
