i always give good quality bathsheet towels as housewarming gifts – good (meaning expensive) towels last many years and are a luxury for some new homeowners who have just spent alot of money

Eloping – that is one of the ones that I do, Burrlington Coat Factory has awesome towels if you have one near you.

Kitchen towels and hotpad are great too.

Really, anything you can upgrade alittle for him is great, or that you know he needs.  You know what he has, what he likes, and what he needs.

You could always take a camera and document the first day there for him, and if you send copies of those to his family – two birds with one stone 😉

@MuchGreater: I would go with something a little more personal and fun. I instantly thought of a Margaritaville. This ensures tons of fun nights in the house with your man and it would be useful for entertaining guest if he has a housewarming party. If he does not drink, a set of nice sheets will work too.

I’d probably get the last thing he’d think he needed, like a Welcome mat or doormat for all the sloppy feet coming in and out. 🙂
