I need some input from the collective hive experience – do you think it makes more sense to get one person to do both your hair and makeup or is it better to get two separate artists, one hairdresser and one makeup artist?
As I see it possible pros are:
1 artist doing both hair and makeup: less stressful to deal with one person, potentially cheaper package, no need to co-ordinate two separate vendors, better view of the ‘total’ look
1 hair stylist + 1 make up artist: possibly more skilled as the person is specialized in one thing, less time pressure as there are 2 people working, easier to find good stylists
Any advice or comments based on your experienced would be valued!

If your hair person does good makeup and vice-versa, then I would go with 1. But I wouldn’t compromise if I couldn’t find the special one.

I don’t have a very large bridal party so 1 person should be able to manage us all. I guess I’ll have to set up some trials to find out how good they are!

@heather25: exactly what I was going to say.

I have a hair lady who is bringing an assistant and 1 makeup lady. For me it was a time thing. There are 8 people needing hair and makeup and I wanted to be sure we didn’t run over.

There will only be 3 of us needing hair (me, mom, MOH) and probably only me needing makeup. I’ll be getting ready at the venue so won’t be driving between salons so time pressure isn’t actually a big issue.
I wish trials weren’t so expensive, otherwise I’d set up lots of them. I’m being quoted around $80-100 per trial, sigh.

1 person is so much easier and usually cheaper. as long as you don’t have a lot of people, 1 person is fine. my hair/makeup artist told me they schedule 1 hour per person with an extra half hour for the bride…so that would be 3.5 hours for you.

one of my sisters had used a make up artist and hairstylist from http://www.entertainoz.com.au/ and she came with an assistant..also it works out cheaper if you have one person helping the main artist especially if she is going to be attending to you and someone else as well, you dont want any mishaps on the day of your wedding.

We had a separate person for hair and make-up and I think it worked out great!
ETA: We did have me, both moms, my grandma, and 3 bridesmaids who got hair and make-up done though so we had more people.
