Hey bees!
Since I’ve been browsing the ring boards I find myself quite confused about my own taste… I always thought I would prefer a round solitaire but since I looked to all the beautiful rings here I am not sure anymore!
I now think a round solitaire -while classic- is a little too common for me. The more pear, oval or emerald cut diamonds I see, the more I get attracted to them!
If you had to put a 3/4 – 1 ct stone on a solitaire, what shape would you chose and why?
Feel free to add a picture ๐

I would always choose a round brilliant. It’s my favorite stone and the one I have. For me, I also love seeing ovals in solitare settings. They are gorgeous too!

I chose an emerald, but only if you can get a really well-cut, clear stone. Otherwise I love an oval.

@labossanova: I always wanted an emerald — you really don’t see many of them. They are pretty unique and have an old feel to them. I don’t know how Fiance figured it out, but he got me a 1 ct emerald ๐ He actually said when he saw it, he knew it was the cut for me as it fit my personality ๐

I love cushions best, but if I were to choose between a pear, oval, or emerald cut, I would pick a pear or oval. Pears will face up the largest, EC will face up the smallest… Pears and ovals can both bowtie though, so you will need to watch the cut.

Ovals look the biggest and elongate your finger. Emerald could be gorgeous too though!

So far Oval takes the lead!
I have to say, I am most torn between oval and pear. I like the oval because it is an elongated round, super sparkly and classic. The pear does something to my eyes thought… there is something in this unusual shape that I find so interesting. Since I saw Katherine Heigl’s ering I am psyched!

@lovekiss: ohhh that’s true! Never thought of it!
@MrsTickledPink: I really like the old feel too! I am just worried 0.75ct will look to small and “lost” setted as a solitaire… I would sell my soul for a 3 or 5 stones emerald cut sing thought…

PEAR! PEAR! PEAR! Pear cuts are my weakness, ESPECIALLY in a solitaire setting. <3

@labossanova: I pick other. I would probably pick a round brilliant in that size as it will face up really large. If I were to get another ring to wear on my right hand I would probably go with the a pear shaped morganite but in a 2.5 equivalent carat weight.

I love all three! Hmmm but…
For a soliatire, I would go for oval! With pear shapes, I prefer them with a halo. I feel like a halo does its shape more justice than a solitaire because the prongs on a pear solitaire can sometimes be distracting, IMO. As for the emerald cut, I think they are gorgeous but I would personally prefer a rectangular radiant cut so I can get more sparkle ๐

@labossanova: I would choose an emerald over and over again. I don’t know when or why it happened, but I all of a sudden became insanely obsessed with emerald cut diamonds. They are just so sophisticated and classic.
