In my circle of friends, a 2ct+ center stone would really stand out as large.

IRL, because large diamonds are so uncommon where I live, anything 1 ct or above is enormous.

On the bee, I think once it hits 2 cts it’s too gargantuan for me.

I think it’s really cultural. I have 1/2 a carat plus side stones. In nz, where I’m from, that’s about average. On the bee that seems to be on the small side. In Japan (at least where I live, I can’t speak for the whole country) it is considered really big, and people actually rub their fingers over it!

Personally, I’d say 1 1/2 carats is big. I think all look great though!

I think it depends on the hand and the ring.  I’ve seen rings that were 1.5 carats and looked gaudy, and I’ve seen 3 carat rings that are just breathtakingly beautiful.

I think it depends on the hand. I’m not even sure what mine is, but if it were any bigger I think it would be TOO big since I also have a halo, diamonds on the e-ring band, and diamonds on the wedding band.

@LilMsMicro:  I believe there used to be one posted but I think she changed her name. Bummer!

I have an over two carat center stone with halo making it well over 3 carats so obviously I don’t think a three carat ring is huge or enormous. I would also be perfectly comfortable with a center diamond that size. Then again I have never hidden my love of larger rings so that isn’t really shocking I’m sure.

In my personal opinion if you can’t bend your finger or it covers your knuckle then it is huge or enormous. Case in point Kim Kardashian:

On MY hand, even a 1 ct. solitare would seem huge to me, but I also can’t stand rings that stick up over my finger– I much prefer bands.  On others however, It has to either be a giant setting or well over 3 ct before I’ll automatically deem a ring “huge”.

@Treejewel19:  I hated Kim’s set.  I feel like even Liz Taylor would roll her eyes and say “honey, you’re doing it wrong” at that one.

I personally think that over 1.5 cts is too big. I think 1 carat or under is perfect.

@abirdword:  Totally agree. There are big diamonds that look elegant and then there is the compiling of large diamonds for the sake of just wearing large diamonds.

I love this Elizabeth Taylor 33.19 carat ring. Obviously it is HUGE but so stunning when worn the proper way (alone).

although desireable, 1+ct is already huge. Tried on one for fun the other day when I was ring shopping with my friend, and it looked so costumey! the fact that my hands are kiddie hands did not help at all

I am a size 6 and my .61 looks perfect on my hand so anything over 1-1.5cts would look a little too big I think. Haven’t tried on any that size, so don’t know for sure!

As it weird as it sounds, it depends on my mood and outfit … I have lots me costume jewelry for this reason. For my wedding set? Sometimes I feel the same :/
