in the fall/winter i have a down comforter with a duvet cover on it.  i have a couple different covers so i can wash those more regularly than i wash the down comforter.

in the spring/summer – i just use a light weight quilt. if i get chilly, i just put on an extra blanet on my side. DH is like sleeping next to a radiator.

We have regular sheets, and a down comforter w/ duvet. Darling Husband and I both get hot at night, despite keeping our house pretty cold. I’d roast in flannel sheets and fleece jammies…lol. I’ll only do a duvet, because we had dogs who jump in bed with us and I wash it constantly.

RedHeadKel:  Yes! I have a friend who uses a regular comforter. Two kids and a dog who are CONSTANTLY jumping and rolling around on her bed. It actually kind of grosses me out…lol. They aren’t easy to clean in your own washer because normally it’s too big. You either end up constantly having to go use a big washer/dryer at the laundromat or having it dry cleaned. To me, that’s just way too much work..lol!

My husband and I sleep with our own comforters. I bought mine from Target. They have some pretty ones there.

RedHeadKel:  We love our down comforter (you can buy various warmth levels–we got ours from Macy’s) and duvet cover from H&M Home. We have a white linen one we bought for $99 and it is awesome and looks more high end than it costs (I was going for Restoration Hardware look). So easy to wash, too. I read somewhere where you were worried about re-stuffing? You need to watch this video, then! It takes me less than a minute to put it back on after washing.

I have an Ikea down comforter and an LLBean cover. I like it! Fluffy and cozy. SUPER warm.

I am also from MN, and right now I just have a comforter that I got from Wal Mart online, actually! I am very happy with it, nothing too fancy and its just 1 solid color (taupe with little “pick ups” all over) but our bedroom is all neautral colored, and the comforter is very warm! Once it gets really cold i will switch to flannel sheets and probably add a fleece blanket underneath the comforter

RedHeadKel:  We just have a comforter on our bed, it’s from JCPenny (Royal Velvet). It’s not down, but it’s warm!

I had the link, but it didn’t copy all of it. We have the Damask Stipe in Chocolate, with the matching 400 ct sheets in Steel Blue.

I’m in ND… so I understand the cold! 🙂 I don’t wear anything to bed, and I’m usually good with the comforter, and our sheets (also Royal Velvet, got as wedding presents). And, I get cold easily.

We have a down duvet from Bloomingdale’s home and I love it!  I used to have a flannel cover, but it was just too heavy, so now we have a very thin cotton cover from Lands’ End.  I will say I disagree with pp about it being easy to wash/change – I do like that I can wash the cover in a standard machine no problem, but since it’s king size it’s really hard to wrestle on and off.  The ties make it better, but it’s still a PITA and I don’t wash it as often as I should.

As for washing the duvet itself – NO.  It’s filled with down!  Dry clean that sucker.

In the summer we use cotton sheets from Threshold at Target, and in the winter flannel sheets.  We also have a thin cotton blanket between under the duvet – I get really hot at night and Darling Husband gets cold, so I’ll often throw off the duvet in the night.

I’m in Canada. (AKA Minnesota #1 for cold). Lol! I was dying for a white goose down duvet. I finally found one a mth ago. I bought the all season kind. LOVE IT! Your temperature is always right. You don’t sweat and it breathes. I bought a duvet cover for it.

We do not have pets but we do have a baby whom we hope will not pee and/or throw up on it. *fingers crossed* ☺

RedHeadKel:  It’s a perfect medium weight! It’s got the little loops on each corner that work for covers with ties or buttons.
